İzmir Büyüküşehir Municipality accelerated its preparations for possible disasters after the earthquake that hit the city on October 30. ESHOT General Directorate has also produced a mobile accommodation vehicle to solve the accommodation problems of the teams involved in search and rescue activities.

After the October 30 earthquake that shook Izmir, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality diversified its activities against possible disasters. Speeding up its work with the lessons learned from the earthquake that hit the city, ESHOT General Directorate implemented the mobile accommodation vehicle project that will allow the teams to rest during the search and rescue activities.

The General Directorate of ESHOT worked on the mobile accommodation vehicle project since the buses put into service did not provide the necessary comfort so that the search and rescue teams working in the field could rest right after the earthquake. Within the scope of the project, one of the 2001 model Mercedes articulated buses in the fleet was turned into a mobile dormitory in ESHOT workshops with the company's own resources. Seats, upholstery, handles were removed. Beds, soft seats, tables and heaters were installed in the vehicle. A carpet was laid on the floor. Interior and exterior surfaces, windows and ceilings were covered with decorative images. The engine and chassis of the vehicle were also renewed.

Similar will be made

Following this pilot vehicle, ESHOT General Directorate will also build new mobile accommodation vehicles. The new vehicles will also have shower cabins. The vehicles will be kept ready at any time to serve search and rescue personnel in possible disasters in Izmir or anywhere in the country.
