Emirates welcomed the MSN A2020-EVL, the first of three A380s to join its fleet in 6. Thus, the number of A380s in the airline's fleet reached 116. A mixture of conventional jet fuel and sustainable aviation fuel was used in the flight as the plane landed in Dubai on Saturday morning.

Emirates is scheduled to take delivery of two more A380 aircraft later this month. One of them will feature the long-awaited Emirates' signature Premium Economy product.

The A380 has been the flagship of the airline since the day it joined the Emirates fleet 12 years ago and has become a favorite of passengers for its unrivaled travel experience. Signature elements such as the A380 Onboard Lounge and Shower & Spa are still making a splash around the world.

While the Emirates A380 experience continues to be highly popular with passengers, it is preferred by many passengers for its spaciousness, silence and comfort offered in every cabin. Emirates recently relaunched its iconic products for the benefit of its passengers, maintaining the high level of travel experience with the measures that made the health and well-being of passengers a priority during the pandemic.

Sir Tim Clark, Emirates Airline Chief, said: “The A380 is a success story for Emirates and it is also reflected in the strong passenger interest we have caught wherever we fly with the A380 over the years. The A380 helped us effectively meet passenger demand at airports with runway restrictions as well as main flight lines and supported our long-distance hub operations. More importantly, thanks to the space and technology on this aircraft, we were able to offer new in-flight concepts that improve the flying experience. We look forward to delivering the Premium Economy experience, which will debut on the A380 in the coming months, and will continue to invest in the A380's premium product experience. The A380 will continue to be our flagship for years to come, and we will fly the A380 on more routes once the demand for travel rebuilds. "

The A380 currently flies to Cairo, Amman, Paris, London, Guangzhou, Manchester and Moscow, and recently the A380 has increased services to London Heathrow with four daily flights and daily flights to Moscow. The two-deck aircraft demonstrates its versatile use as a "mini cargo plane" in selected cargo charter operations for the transport of urgently needed cargo in the Emirates network.

The delivery flight of the newest member of the Emirates fleet was carried out with a mixture of conventional jet fuel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This is the first time that the airline has used sustainable aviation fuel on an A380 flight. The bio fuel used in flight was produced from used cooking oils in Finland.

Sir Tim made a statement regarding the airline's commitment to reducing its environmental impact: “Sustainability remains as an issue on our agenda as Emirates. We are closely following developments in sustainable aviation fuel and look forward to producing it on a larger scale and at competitive costs. Partly sustainable aviation fuel was used in the last A380 delivery flight and we have taken a positive step towards reducing our emissions overall. ”

Emirates continues to support work that contributes to the development of the SAF sector and the wider use of biofuels. The airline is on the Executive Committee of the Clean Skies for Tomorrow coalition established by the World Economic Forum to support the development of SAF. Emirates also supports a series of webinars on the future of SAF hosted by Khalifa University in the UAE. Al Wegdaniyah, one of the main crew bus transportation contractors, has switched to biofuel provided by Neutral Fuels, with one-third of the Emirates team's shuttle buses already running on biofuel.

Emirates continues to take important steps to reduce emissions. Emirates operates its flights on modern, fuel-efficient aircraft with an average age of 6,5 years, and has a comprehensive fuel efficiency program that implements a number of initiatives, including working with air navigation providers on “flexible routes” or flexible routes that create the most efficient flight plan for each flight .

Emirates also uses a powerful fuel tracking system. The airline is also implementing fuel efficiency practices on the ground, such as using power units that consume as little energy as possible and turning off one or two engines during taxi after landing. Other work initiatives include the release of the engine brake on landing, improvements in loading efficiency, aircraft weight management and the introduction of electronic flight bags for the cockpit crew.
