Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has added the Kestel Junction at the entrance of the city to the smart intersection applications that it started for comfortable and convenient transportation. With the implementation, the vehicle load of the Kestel exit arm will be reduced by 40 percent.
The Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its efforts to eliminate the most talked about issue in Bursa and to make the citizens more comfortable and convenient, continues to work in important points of the city. Taking action to end the traffic congestion at the Kestel Junction at the entrance point from the east of the city, the Metropolitan Municipality aims to end the smart intersection arrangement as soon as possible and to eliminate the transportation problem, especially in the morning going to work and returning to work in the evening. With the arrangement made at the Kestel intersection, approximately 700 vehicles will be removed from the Kestel exit, which is the busiest branch of the intersection, to go from Uludağ Street to Ankara and Bursa. Within the scope of the intersection works, 1350 square meters of parquet, 1550 meters of curbs, 150 cubic meters of concrete, 550 cubic meters of excavation, 450 cubic meters of sub-base, 750 tons of PMT, 850 tons of asphalt will be produced.
Metropolitan support to Kestel
Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, together with Kestel Mayor Önder Tanır and AK Party Kestel District Chairman Sinan Aktaş, examined the works at the Kestel Junction on site. Stating that a feverish work is being carried out at the entrance of Kestel on the east side of the city, Mayor Aktaş stated that he spoke about the city's transportation, means of transportation, roads, bridges and intersections. Stating that the Metropolitan Municipality is making efforts to keep people alive in a more accessible Bursa, Mayor Aktaş stated that Kestel is one of the rapidly developing districts along with Gürsu on the east side of the city. Mayor Aktaş, who expressed that Kestel Municipality supports the works carried out in the center as the Metropolitan Municipality, said, “Both Kestel Organized Industrial Zone and Barakfakih Organized Industrial Zone have loads to the city. There were serious problems at the Kestel Junction at the entrance of the city. The people of Kestel had requests and demands in this regard. In the end, we did our project work and started work. First of all, although it belongs to the Organized Industrial Zone, we are working as a Metropolitan Municipality on Uludağ Street. We will be finished next week, ”he said.
"Capacity will increase by 50 percent"
Stating that with the arrangement made to the Kestel intersection, approximately 700 vehicles at the peak hour that wanted to go from Uludağ Street to Ankara and Bursa direction were removed from the Kestel exit, which is the busiest branch of the intersection, and said, “Thus, the vehicle load of the Kestel exit arm was reduced by 40 percent. Capacity losses due to crossover have been eliminated. The storage area of the Kestel outlet arm has been expanded. The total capacity of the intersection has increased by 50 percent. The average waiting time for red light in the junction area has also decreased by 20 seconds. After the application is fully activated, both the citizens in Kestel and the citizens coming to Kestel from Bursa will experience this comfort. We continue to accelerate our transportation-related investments in Kestel and other districts. In 2021, our new junctions, bridges and roads are coming. The Mayor of Kestel Önder Tanır thanked Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Mayor Alinur Aktaş who started the work. Stating that the Metropolitan Municipality has great services in the center and main arteries of the district, Tanır said, “The work carried out in the Kestel Junction is one of the gold strike works, so to speak. There were serious difficulties especially during the morning departure and return time from work in the evening. This was our last problem. Hopefully, the problem in our district will be eliminated with the investment. We are happy to fulfill our promises to our people.
