The practice of bringing people limits to streets and squares, which is included in the circular sent by the Ministry of Interior within the scope of new coronavirus measures, will also be implemented on Istiklal Street.

Beyoğlu District Governor Mustafa Demirelli made the following statement on his personal Twitter account regarding the decision taken:

“Dear Istanbulites, as of tomorrow, within the scope of coronavirus measures, we have limited the entrance to Istiklal Street with the Decree of the District Hygiene Board in order to reduce the risk of contamination caused by human density.

There will be 7000 people at the same time in the part of the street from Taksim Square entrance to Tunnel Square, and if the density increases, we will temporarily stop the entrances.

At the same time, because walking face-to-face increases the risk of contamination, we decided that the tramway was accepted as the middle point and everyone should walk on the right. The restriction will take effect from 10.00:XNUMX tomorrow.

We had to make this decision in order to reduce the risk of contamination and the street crowded. We expect all tradesmen and business owners on the street, our citizens and all our foreign guests to welcome us and comply with these restrictions. "
