Beijing and Shanghai, two metropolises of China, have launched a service that will allow passengers to travel by paying with the same / common QR code in both urban metro networks.

In Chinese cities, a single QR code is often used for metro passengers to get on the subway. However, the QR codes used in the systems developed by each city itself were different and not interconnected. This service, which was launched on the first day of December, will ensure that the data matrix valid in one of these cities for payment applications at the entrance to Beijing and Shanghai metro lines will be valid for the other.

Shanghai city officials state that this connected payment system should be extended to metro networks in other regions. Beijing and Shanghai are cities with the most extensive metro networks in the country. Each of them carries more than ten million passengers a day. In addition, there are frequent visits between these two big cities.
