The last Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting of 2020 convened on December 23 at Yenikapı Eurasia Show Center under the Presidency of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar.
At the meeting, in the proposal to arrange a tariff in public transportation, minibuses demanded that the shortest distance to get on and off the minibus was 3 TL. At the meeting, with the proposal of the IMM administration, the shortest distance increased from 0 to 2 with an increase of 11 percent between 2,50-2,75 km, and from 2 to 4 lira between 2,70-3 km. The distance between 15-20 km increased from 3,70 to 4 liras, while it was 20 lira for routes of 4 kilometers and above and 1,75 lira for additional kilometers. In taxis, the taximeter opening price for A, B and C segment taxi vehicles is from 5 TL to 5.50 TL and for the D segment and C segment 100% electric motor taxis, it is from 5,75 TL for luxury taxis. Increased to 6,38. Taxi charges were also increased by 8,50 percent. The 9,44 percent hike of IMM in public transportation was accepted by majority vote.
Evaluating the increase, Eyüp Aksu, President of the Chamber of Taxi Drivers in Istanbul, said, “We found it less that our municipality increased the transportation tariffs by 11 percent today. Our demand was 25 percent, ”he said.
