On the anniversary of his death, his grave was mentioned at the beginning
Tepebaşı Mayor Dt. Ahmet Ataç commemorated Behiç Erkin, the founder and first general manager of the State Railways, at the beginning of his grave due to the 59th anniversary of his death.
A commemoration ceremony was held at the grave of Behiç Erkin, who played an important role in winning the Çanakkale War as the commander in charge of the shipments and was one of the most important heroes of the War of Independence.
In addition to Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç, TÜRASAŞ Eskişehir Regional Director Bülent Toksavul, TÜRASAŞ Eskişehir Regional Deputy Director Ömer Demirel, Railway Vocational School Alumni Association Eskişehir Branch President Caner Yurdadön and Sivrihisar Education Culture and Solidarity Foundation President Naci Şakar attended the ceremony.
Making an assessment here, President Ataç noted that Erkin, one of the most important heroes of the War of Independence and saved thousands of innocent lives in the Second World War, was a great statesman. Ataç, “Behiç Erkin, the founder and first general manager of State Railways, is known as the 'Father of Railways'. Erkin is one of Atatürk's closest and oldest colleagues. He is one of the few people with whom he most openly shares his thoughts with private letters and exchanges ideas on country and world issues. Behiç Erkin, one of Eskişehir's most important city memories, is an unforgettable statesman for us. We, as Tepebaşı Municipality, showed our sensitivity to the values of the city to Behiç Erkin and gave our important sports project his name. I remember with mercy the Turkish politician and diplomat Behiç Erkin, whom we passed away on November 11, 1961, and I would like to express once again that we will never forget and forget him ”.
The commemoration ceremony ended with President Ataç and his entourage laying cloves in Erkin's grave and prayers.
