İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will make temporary traffic arrangements in the section of Atatürk Street between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Konak Pier within the scope of the First Stage Enclosure Infrastructure Project, which it carries out to prevent floods in the Kemeraltı region and to strengthen the infrastructure of the region. During the works that will start on 5 November 2020, this part of the road has been rearranged in a way that will not disrupt the traffic flow.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has taken another important step within the scope of Kemeraltı Bracing Infrastructure Project, which is prepared to carry Kemeraltı Bazaar, one of the historical values ​​of the city, to the future. It has been reported that the production of rainwater lines that will discharge the rainwater to be collected at the pumping station opposite the main service building of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality into the sea will be started.

It will take 50 days

Within the scope of these works, transportation will be arranged in the part of Atatürk Street between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Konak Pier for 5 days starting from Thursday, November 50th, in a way that will not disrupt the traffic flow. During the works to be carried out on the sea side of the road, there will be no change in the traffic flow by gradually shifting the road, and on the land side, transportation will be provided from the service road opened in the parking lot opposite the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Main Service Building. After the work on Atatürk Street is completed, the traffic order will be restored to its current state. 7 rainwater pipes of 90 cm in diameter and 72 meters in length will be laid between the pumping station and the sea. In order for the productions to be completed as soon as possible, the teams will continue their work 7 hours a day, 24 days a week, under the supervision of the Department of Science.

Kemeraltı will be saved

The project will ensure that the rain water coming from Ikiçeşmelik and high sections that caused the raids in Kemeraltı during heavy rainfalls will be collected at the pumping center and discharged to the sea. Following this work initiated by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Kemeraltı with the "bonding method", the 2nd Stage project, which covers all the streets of the historical bazaar and renews the entire technical infrastructure, will start the construction. The tender of the 2nd Stage project was made on November 2, 2020, and the construction process is expected to be initiated by the site delivery after the end of the tender objection period.

What to do?

Within the scope of Kemeraltı Bracing Infrastructure Project, a rainwater and sewer line will be installed in Eşrefpaşa Street, Gazi Boulevard, Gaziosmanpaşa Boulevard and Çankaya region. Rain water grids will be built on Şehit Fethi Bey Avenue. The drinking water line between the clock tower and Fevzipaşa Boulevard will be renewed. With the renewal of drinking water and wastewater lines in Gazi Boulevard, Fevzipaşa Boulevard, Eşrefpaşa Street, the existing infrastructure in the region will be strengthened. The work, which will cost 27 million liras in total, is expected to be completed in 7 months.
