COOPERATION OF METROPOLITAN, AFAD and GTÜ
Within the scope of the protocol signed between Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and Kocaeli Technical University, it is aimed to implement an early warning system. Within the scope of the "Smart City Application for Disaster Damage Reduction in Kocaeli Province" project, the development of "early warning" and "emergency response" systems continues.
INTERVENTION WITHOUT REACHING EARTHQUAKE EARTH
In Kocaeli, which was declared a pilot, the Metropolitan Municipality increased the number of accelerometers throughout the city to 41. Ground movements at determined points are monitored instantly by accelerometer devices. By processing the received data, it is aimed to make the necessary intervention quickly depending on the possible earthquake intensity. Considering the short time between the onset of the earthquake and its arrival on the earth, the importance of the "early warning" system is remarkable. The knowledge and equipment of the internationally awarded Seismological Monitoring Center will also be strengthened within the scope of the project.
SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE FROM GTÜ
Gebze Technical University will carry out the scientific and technical studies of the project. With the project, an emergency response and early warning system for earthquakes will be established in Kocaeli. With the signal of the early warning system, before the earthquake reaches the earth, all the gas, water, electricity and explosion systems of the factories will be disabled.
ALL INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATIONS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE SYSTEM
On the other hand, the system will follow natural disasters other than earthquakes. While all industrial organizations in Kocaeli will be included in the system, the risk map and building inventory of Kocaeli will be prepared within the scope of the project. The risks of all buildings built before and after the earthquake in the city will be revealed. Work on the buildings will be followed. Studies will be conducted to take precautions regarding the building stock.
