Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu and General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu visited the North Marmara Highway Izmit Junction-Akyazı Section and inspected the latest status of the works.

During his visit, Minister Karaismailoğlu in a statement, noting that Turkey has taken all the measures relating to outbreaks of construction sites over three thousand in general, a great dedication and voiced continued intensive work.

Reminding that they started the construction works of the Northern Marmara Motorway, which is approximately 400 kilometers long together with the connection roads, at the end of 2013, our Minister said that in the project, 321 kilometers of which has been completed so far, the last section of the 6th section, which is 68 kilometers long, is between TEM İzmit-1 and Akyazı intersections He said they aimed to put it into service.

Stating that the Northern Marmara Motorway, which will be an alternative to the D-100 and TEM Motorways and will soon be put into service, there is a 47-kilometer double-tube viaduct and a 16-kilometer double-tube tunnel, the Minister pointed out that the longest 4-lane highway tunnels in the world are included in this project. Stating that the project, which was designed as a smart highway, was fully equipped with fiber optic infrastructure, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “134 variable message systems and 193 variable traffic signs were used on the Northern Marmara Highway. It was equipped with 344 thousand 102 smart transportation systems cameras, of which 3 are monitoring and 46 are event detection. A highway ready for all communication conditions was built with 36 meteorological measurement stations ”.

Following his statements, the Minister made examinations in the region and tested the highway using a vehicle.
