Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will host a scientific study that covers the lessons to be learned from the earthquake disaster on October 30 and measures for the future. Izmir Earthquake Common Mind Meeting, which will start on Thursday, November 12, 2020, will bring together many experts and scientists in earthquake, earth sciences, construction, zoning and urbanization at Fuar Izmir for two days.
While Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to normalize life in the city after the earthquake, the Mayor Tunç SoyerIt also implements the scientific meeting announced by . İzmir Earthquake Common Mind Meeting, hosted by Fuar İzmir, will start on Thursday, November 12 and will be completed with sessions to be held on Friday, November 13. Turkey's leading figures on earthquakes and disasters will take the floor. On the first day of the meeting, the opinions and suggestions of scientists will be heard. On the second day, roundtable meetings will be held with the participants, problems, solution proposals and future projects will be evaluated.
First day sessions: The opening presentations of the Izmir Earthquake Common Mind Meeting were presented by Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör and Prof. Dr. Haluk Sucuoğlu will do it. Then, in the session titled “Seismicity of İzmir, Earthquake-Producing Faults and Tsunami”, Prof. Dr. Erdin Bozkurt and Prof. Dr. Bora Rojay “Seismicity of the Aegean Region and Earthquake Generating Faults”, Dr. Doğan Kalafat “30 October 2020 Aegean Sea Earthquake and Seismological Features of the Region”, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevdet Yalçıner will share his presentations on “30 October 2020 Tsunami Field Research and Modeling”.
Again, within the scope of the first day sessions, "Soil Conditions in the Construction of Izmir, Soil Structure Interaction" will be among the topics to be discussed. In this session, Prof. Dr. Kuvvet Atakan, “Earthquake Hazard, Ground Problems and Earthquake Risk in İzmir”, Prof. Dr. Nihat Sinan Işık "Soil Behavior in Earthquakes", Assoc. Dr. Alper Sezer “İzmir Under Seismic Effects: The Effect of Geotechnical Properties on Building Behavior”, Assoc. Dr. Osman Uyanık will make presentations under the headings of "Determination of Location Features Using Geophysical Methods".
In the afternoon of the first day, in the session titled “Durable Buildings, Building Safety and Building Stock in İzmir, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Nuray Aydınoğlu “Earthquake Safety of Tall Buildings in İzmir”, Prof. Dr. Erdem Canbay “Durable Structures and Improvement”, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yakut “General Features of Reinforced Concrete Buildings that Affect Earthquake Performance”, Assoc. Dr. Cemalettin Dönmez "How Can We Make The Fastest Intervention To The Existing Building Stock?" will share their knowledge with the participants under the headings.
In the next session titled “Spatial Planning and Earthquake Oriented Urban Transformation”, the experts and their topics will be as follows: Prof. Dr. Handan Türkoğlu - “Spatial Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction”, Prof. Dr. Murat Balamir - “Risk Management Applications and Urban Collective Renewal”, Assoc. Dr. Binali Tercan - “Settlement Policies in Disaster Management, Planning Process and Implementation Problems of Urban Transformation”, Assoc. Dr. Semahat Özdemir - “On the Necessity of Determining Priority Action Areas for Risk Reduction in İzmir Plans”.
In the session titled Disaster and Emergency Management: Coordination, Education, First Aid and Health, Search and Rescue, Temporary Housing, Damage Assessment, Transportation, Communication, firstly, Okşen Mersin Atikbay will give a speech on “Disaster Management”. Dr. Mauricio Morales Beltran will present the "International Structural Surveillance Discoveries for the October 30th Earthquake". Assoc. Dr. Ninel Alver “Non-destructive testing methods for fast and reliable damage detection”, Dr. Ülkümen Rodoplu “Personal Action Plan, First Aid, Institutional Disaster Plan”, Dr. Turhan Sofuoğlu will make a presentation under the headings of "Emergency Response Management in Disasters".
In the last session of the day, social and psychological dimensions of the earthquake will be discussed. Prof. Dr. Melekmendagenli will appeal to the participants with her presentations titled "Social and Psychological Consequences of Earthquake", Psychologist Dünya Polat "Crisis Psychological Intervention".
"Izmir Earthquake Common Mind Meetings" will be completed with roundtable meetings to be held on Friday, November 13th.
