Konya Metropolitan Municipality gave empathy training to bus, minibus and heavy vehicle drivers in order to better understand the difficulties experienced by cyclists in traffic in Konya.

With 550 kilometers of bike paths with Turkey's longest and busiest bike in Konya, a city used to promote the use of bicycles and conducted various studies to provide a more comfortable cycling in traffic of cyclists. In this context, Konya Metropolitan Municipality organized empathy trainings in cooperation with the Association of Konya Tradesmen and Craftsmen Associations in order to enable bus, minibus and heavy vehicle drivers to put themselves in the shoes of cyclists and to better understand the difficulties experienced by cyclists in traffic.

THE DRIVERS ARE FEARED BY THE HIGH SOUND

In the training provided, the drivers pedaled on the bicycles on the roadside apparatus. In the meantime, the drivers, who were exposed to the intense horn sounds of vehicles that were passing very close to them, were startled and put themselves in the shoes of the cyclists for a moment in the traffic and realized the difficulty of the cyclists.

OPEN IN FRONT OF KONYA BICYCLE ROAD NETWORK

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they, as the bicycle city Konya, strengthen the bicycle infrastructure on the one hand and carry out awareness studies on the other. The aim here is for our heavy vehicle drivers to learn by experiencing what cyclists feel in traffic. Thus, we want them to treat cyclists more respectfully in traffic. Konya is a bicycle city and dozens, hundreds of people use bicycles as a means of transportation every day. We are carrying out this project together with our Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Konya Chamber of Minibuses. Our primary goal is for bus, heavy vehicle and minibus drivers to receive this training. I hope everyone in advancing the process capacity in Turkey will go through this training. Because the life safety of our bicycle citizens in traffic is more important than anything else. I thank our friends. I hope that cyclists in Konya will continue to use bicycles much more comfortably after this empathy training. " said.

This training is widespread in Turkey, where we started our Hopefully Metropolitan Municipality. We would like to thank our Metropolitan Mayor for implementing such a project and turning Konya into a bicycle city. " said.

THEY WILL BE MORE SENSITIVE

The drivers who participated in the empathy training stated that they understood the situation of cyclists better and that they would be more careful and sensitive to cyclists in traffic from now on.
