Toyota Motor, Hitachi and East Japanese Railway Company have announced that they will partner to develop hybrid railway vehicles that use hydrogen fuel cells and storage batteries as electricity sources.

According to the agreement, Toyota Motor will develop fuel cells for vehicles called HYBARI. Hitachi will produce the hybrid drive system. The vehicles are expected to be testable in early 2022.
