A new high-speed train departs from Urumqi on Sunday morning, October 11, connecting Urumqi, capital of northeastern China's Xinjiang Autonomous Uyghur Region, to Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province.
The train departing from Urumqi at 9.58 in the morning, traveling an average of 250 kilometers per hour, traveled 2 kilometers and reached Xi'an at 354:23.20. This line will have included Xinjiang in the country's largest high-speed rail network.
The distance between the two cities in question is reduced to a 13 hour 22 minute journey by crossing the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai and stopping at all eight stations. Wei Jia, head of China Railway Xi'an Group, explained that with the commissioning of this train, the lack of high-speed train connections between the two major cities of Northwest China has been eliminated.
The new train line will stimulate tourism, economic and cultural exchange along the route. Shaanxi province economic and cultural research official Zhang Baotong said that this line will contribute to the economic and cultural dynamism in the northwest of the country and the opening of the region.
