Chinese Researchers Develop Hybrid Battery System to Save Energy in Metro

Chinese researchers have developed a ground hybrid energy storage device consisting of supercapacitor and battery to save energy in subways.

According to the news in Science and Technology Daily, the device can recycle the energy of a subway train's break and pull the trains to the stations with the energy allocated when the power supply experiences a sudden failure.

The device, developed by researchers from Beijing Jiaotong University, is currently being tested on the Beijing metro. According to the report published by the researchers, the savings to be provided by the device can exceed 15 percent of the energy consumed in the subway in a day. Thanks to this new hybrid system, energy savings of 13 percent on working days and 17 percent on weekends will be achieved in the metro.
