Istanbul Strait, this weekend, one of Turkey's most important water sports events will be hosted. The Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup Sailing Races, which will be held with the support of IMM, will be held for the 19th time between two continents.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) continues to improve the city's sports culture and brand value with the events it organizes or supports. The Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup Sailing Races, organized with the aim of making Istanbulites love sailing and contributing to the promotion of the city, will be the scene of exciting moments this year as well. The races, for which IMM provides promotional support under the coordination of the Directorate of Youth and Sports, will be organized with the theme of "Istanbul Sailing". The organization will be broadcast live on goturkey instagram page and on boshoruscup.org. At the end of the race, the athletes of the boat, which won the general classification, will be given a special rotating trophy cup designed by the world famous designer Can Yalman. The winning team will have the trophy for one year.
THE THROAT WILL BE COLORFUL IN THE FIRST DAY RACES
The race will last for two days and the first stage of the race, which will be held in the Bosphorus on September 26, will start on the start line set up in front of Bahçeşehir University Beşiktaş Campus. The boats will then leave the Anadolu Hisarı buoy at the pier and return to the buoy in front of the Çırağan Palace. Afterwards, they will complete the race in front of Çırağan Palace and finish the first day stage.
500 ATHLETES ARE COMPETING WITH 50 SAILS
Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup will end with buoy races at Caddebostan on Sunday, September 27th. Last year's race came to Istanbul for the world of the boats and sailors now in many countries, except Turkey this year due to the pandemic will only compete participants from Bulgaria and Romania. In the organization where the two countries will take part with 7 sailboats, 500 athletes in total will compete with 50 sailboats.
PANDEMIC MEASURES
19. Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup will be held with coronavirus measures. Warning signs will be placed on all boats for the races where health and safety measures are taken. Each participant will have enough visors, masks, disinfectants and gloves in the race where sailors will disinfect their boats frequently. Athletes will get on their boats by taking temperature measurements and pay attention to the social distance on their boats.
