The 5th Section of the Northern Marmara Motorway was put into service with a ceremony held on Saturday, September 19. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, deputies, representatives of public institutions and contractors were present at the ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a video conference.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who started his speech by wishing the Gebze-Izmit Highway to be beneficial to our country, said, “The Northern Marmara Highway is a big project starting from the farthest point in the west of Istanbul and extending to Kocaeli and Sakarya. We have been opening the sections of our motorway, whose construction has been completed, gradually since 2016. This section alone is a work of honor. " said.
Stating that the Gebze-İzmit Motorway's four-way and four-way lane width will also ease the most congested section of the Istanbul-Ankara route, Erdogan added that the history of vehicle traffic will be mixed in periods such as religious holidays. Erdogan said, "The annual contribution of this route will reach 270 million liras, 317 million in reducing the emission of 8 million lira from fuel, 595 million lira." he spoke.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that they are happy to open the 400-kilometer Gebze-Izmit stage of the 57,4-kilometer-long Northern Marmara Motorway, which aims to reduce the traffic load of Istanbul and Marmara Region on the international road route.
Karaismailoğlu emphasized that "The Northern Marmara Motorway, which was built in the Marmara Region, where traffic is the most in our country, has managed to reduce the traffic density in Istanbul and the existing Bosphorus bridges with its previously opened stages", and said, "A high standard, uninterrupted, safe and comfortable road Transit is provided with. With the opening of the 57,4-kilometer Gebze-Izmit stage to traffic, we have created a safe and comfortable new transportation corridor, alternative to the TEM Highway and D-100, which has a freight traffic volume between Istanbul and Kocaeli. Northern Marmara Highway; It will join the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Highway and the Istanbul-İzmir Highway, which were started in the Malkara-Çanakkale section, including the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, and integrate the Northern Marmara Region and the South Marmara Region into the transportation system in the Western Anatolia Region.
Offering an uninterrupted, safe and comfortable transit opportunity for national and international land transportation and transport vehicles, the motorway will contribute to reducing the traffic density in Istanbul's city and existing Bosphorus bridges.
Vehicles coming from Istanbul using the Northern Marmara Motorway will be connected to Izmit and Izmit-Kandıra State Road in Çayırköy, and to the TEM İstanbul-Ankara Highway between the Kandıra and East İzmit intersections of the current TEM Highway.
