Erzincan Trabzon Railway Shifted to İyidere

Erzincan-Trabzon Railway, which Trabzon has been waiting for a century, is shifted to İyidere, as it was in Sürmene Logistics before. It was revealed that the railway was shifted to Erzurum-Rize line with the letter of the Ministry of Transport, General Directorate of State Railways dated 27 February 2020 and numbered 405744.

It has been revealed that the General Directorate of State Railways has put the Erzurum (Aşkale) -Rize (İyidere) Railway Project into the vision with its silent and deep work and has given working instructions to the municipalities on the route. In the letter sent to 4 municipalities, including the Trabzon Metropolitan Directorate, the numerical data of the corridor (Dgn, Dwg, Ncz, Kmz) envisaged to be built between Aşkale and İyidere were sent and it was requested to send 1/5 thousand scale route work within this framework. It was noted that the opinion on the railway corridor would be evaluated positively if the institution's opinion was not submitted within 30 days.

Although the opinion of the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality is not known, it was learned that other municipalities expressed a positive opinion and the Route Determination Tender was made. It was stated that the Rize-based pressure and lobbying resulted, and the Erzincan-Trabzon railway line was shifted to İyidere. As it is known, Rize Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Şaban Aziz Karamehmetoğlu made a statement on March 12, 2018 for the Erzincan-Trabzon Railway, "No matter which railroad goes down from the top, the happiness of a province cannot be the unhappiness of the other." He had invited the Rize public opinion to oppose the Erzincan-Trabzon Railway. Karamehmetoğlu also noted that the railway between Erzincan and Trabzon, referring to the population of Trabzon and Gümüşhane, could not be built for a population of 1 million 140 thousand. (Blew)
