Who is Öztürk Serengil?

Öztürk Serengil (b. 2 May 1930, Artvin - d. 11 January 1999, Istanbul) Turkish actor and comedian. He was born in Artvin as the son of teacher Turgut Bey. After his second year in high school, he left his education and came to Istanbul in 1949 with the future famous banker Banker Kastelli Cevher Özden and the future famous painter Cemal Akyıldız. My son started his art life in 1953 with the play called Edvard. He appeared on the stage at Oda Theater in 1958 and at Istanbul City Theater in 1959. He worked as a painter in Babıali in the early 1950's. He started acting in cinema with the movie 3. Floor Murder. In the early days, he typified the 'villain' in 142 films and later became the constant actor of slang comedies and took part in nearly 300 films. He became famous for his character "Adanalı Tayfur". In 1966, he started acting as a showman, as well as taking the stage.

He prepared and presented the competition program called "Gulunuz Güldürinize" on TV. Thanks to this competition, many people stepped into the world of stage and cinema. He has appeared in various TV series. He made various 45's records in the style of political comedy. One of the Güldürü records was “İsmail's Meyhanesi”, a parody version of Timur Selçuk's song “Spanish Meyhanesi”. However, when this record came out, they broke up. Timur Selçuk later had these records collected by court decision. He also published his book, Yeşilçam'i Benden Problem, in which he made a self-criticism of his life.

He has been married four times. He is the father of singer and presenter Seren Serengil (b. 1971).

He had two operations due to brain edema. He could not walk in the last year of his life due to his paralysis, and lost his ability to speak in the last days because the speech center was damaged. He died in his house in Kozyatağı, Istanbul on January 11, 1999, as a result of his respiratory system cease. He was 68 years old when he died. He was buried in Çengelköy cemetery.

Serengil caused great debates with his original perspective on various issues of life and the expression and words he brought to Turkish. The people adopted these words criticized by some. He put new phrases such as “yeşşe” and “kelaj” into Turkish slang, which he uttered with different and unique emphasis. He established a throne in the hearts of the people by saying “Yesşe” in his cheery voice. His former boss Mücap Ofluoğlu, who voiced him in his films, also contributed greatly to this. Moreover, this word "Yesşe" became so famous that even İsmet İnönü could not help himself in the face of an incident and said "Yesşe". This situation showed that he was an artist that appealed to people from all walks of life.
