Yılmaz Büyükerşen, (born November 8, 1937 in Eskişehir), Turkish academic and politician. Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor, former rector of Anadolu University.

Education life

He studied high school in Eskişehir Atatürk High School. In 1962, he was among the first graduates of the Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. He completed his doctorate in 1966. He became associate professor in 1968 and professor in 1973.

Academic life

He was elected president of the academy he graduated from in 1976. He was appointed as the rector of Anadolu University in 1982. He was re-appointed to the same post in 1987. He also served as the Chairman of the Radio and Television High Council for 2 terms. In 1994, with the enactment of Law No. 3984, he resigned from this position. Political life

In the 18 April 1999 elections, Prof. Büyükerşen was elected Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality by taking 44% of the votes. In the local elections of 28 March 2004, he was re-elected to the same post, increasing his votes to 45%. In the 2009 local elections, he was re-elected as the metropolitan mayor with more than 50% of the votes. On January 27, 2011, he resigned from this party, following the demand of the Democratic Left Party administration, who wanted him to resign. He joined the Republican People's Party (CHP) on February 27, 2011. 2014 local elections, the Republican People's Party of Turkey 4.kez Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor was elected. Turkey as a candidate for the 2019 elections, the Republican People's Party and the National Alliance for local 5.kez Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor was elected. Turkey's first wax statue museum bearing his name was opened on May 19, 2013.
