Emirates has made strong and steady progress in its commitment to its passengers to complete pending refunds, announcing that to date payments related to COVID-19-related cancellations have made more than AED 5 billion (US $ 1,4 billion).

Since March, more than 90 million repayment requests have been fulfilled, corresponding to 1,4% of the airline's backlogs. This amount includes all requests received from passengers around the world by the end of June, with the exception of a few cases requiring in-person review.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Emirates has invested additional resources to increase its transaction capacity. The airline also continues to work with industry partners to facilitate refunds for passengers who make their Emirates flight bookings through travel agents, including ensuring that returns are processed directly through global booking systems (GDS).

Sir Tim Clark, Chief of Emirates Airline, said: “From our passengers' perspective, we understand that every pending refund request is individually important. We are committed to the massive and unprecedented accumulated repayments caused by the pandemic, and we are doing our best to do so. The majority of refund requests are routine processes that do not require inspection, and we will process them quickly. However, there are situations where it will take a little longer for our teams to examine and complete them personally. We are grateful to our passengers for their patience and understanding. "

As global travel markets are gradually re-opening, Emirates has gradually relaunched its passenger operations around the world, always striving to offer its passengers a safe and smooth travel experience.

The airline has implemented a series of industry-first initiatives to offer its passengers additional security and confidence during their travels, from biosecurity measures to free COVID-19 health insurance and flexible booking policies at every step of their journey.

Emirates currently has flights to more than 80 cities. As Dubai reopens its doors to international business and leisure visitors, passengers can travel to the city or take a break in the city during their travels. In order to protect the safety of travelers, visitors and the community, UAE nationals, residents, tourists and all passengers transferring from Dubai (and UAE), regardless of their country of origin, are required to undergo COVID-19 PCR testing.

Destination Dubai: Dubai is one of the most popular global cities, with sunny beaches, cultural heritage events and world-class accommodation and leisure facilities. In 2019, the city welcomed 16,7 million visitors and hosted hundreds of global meetings and fairs, as well as sports and entertainment events. Dubai has become one of the first cities in the world to receive a Safe Travel stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which has approved it with comprehensive and effective measures to ensure the health and safety of visitors.

Flexibility and security: Emirates' booking policies offer passengers flexibility and confidence in their travel plans. Passengers who have purchased an Emirates ticket to travel on or before 30 November 2020 by 30 September 2020 have to change their travel plans due to unexpected COVID-19 flight or travel restrictions, or if they have booked on the Flex and Flex plus tariff. They can take advantage of the booking conditions and options that offer flexibility.

Free, global coverage for COVID-19 related costs: If they are diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel, passengers can now travel safely, thanks to the airline's commitment to cover medical costs related to COVID-19 for free. This coverage is valid for passengers flying with Emirates until 31 October 2020 (first flight must be completed on or before 31 October 2020). Passengers benefit for 31 days from the moment they take their first flight. With this application, Emirates passengers continue to benefit from this coverage, even if they travel to another city after arriving with Emirates.
