Making a speech here, Minister Pakdemirli stated that the seed, which is the beginning of agricultural production, has a critical and strategic importance for the future all over the world.

Pakdemirli said that they handled the seed growing issue in detail at the Agriculture and Forest Council last year and then shared the road map on seeds with the public.

indicating the next 30 years will approach 10 billion of the world population will exceed 100 million and the population of Turkey Pakdemirli, "so that the population will increase demand for food will increase by 30% in the next 60 years; It even shows that the need for food will continue to increase not only for humans but also for animals. Therefore; It is of vital importance to read the genetic codes of the seed well and make the planning accordingly in order to ensure food supply security in the future. " he spoke.

Turkey's seed production area that is located between the first 10 countries in the world pointing Pakdemirli, said:

“Our certified seed production increased from 2002 thousand tons in 145 to 8 million 1 thousand tons with an 143-fold increase today. Again, our seed export, which was 2002 million dollars in 17, increased by 2019 times in 9 to 150 million dollars. While the ratio of seed exports meeting imports was 2002% in 31, this rate reached 2019% in 86.

In wheat plantings that find the most production area in our country; The use of certified seeds, which was 2002 thousand tons in 80, increased 2019 times in 5 to 450 thousand tons. Also, the increase of certified seeds used in the production of barley, which has the second size in our country, was realized as 42 times.

Likewise, we can list these increases for seeds of varieties used in all areas of plant production. All these increases show that the seed sector of our country is developing rapidly and is in a breakthrough.

However, these increases are still not sufficient! Spreading the use of certified seeds in all of our crop production is the first condition for the development of our national seed industry. "

As the Ministry, Pakdemirli underlined that they have given tremendous support in the last 18 years in order to ensure the development of the seed sector in accordance with international competition, to increase the yield, quality and reliability in agricultural production, to meet a part of the seed cost of our producers and to reduce the input cost, and has been certified since 2005. He said that they support the use of seeds and seedlings / saplings, certified seed production since 2008 and certified sapling production since 2016.

Minister Pakdemirli stated that they made a total support payment of 2,1 billion lira to the seed sector, including 1,8 billion lira certified seed-sapling use support and 650 million lira seed-sapling production support to 2,4 million farmers.

Reminding that the research institutes affiliated to the ministry have developed local varieties in different types and suitable for the conditions of our country and offered them to the service of farmers, Pakdemirli said:

“Especially, our Research Institutes that develop and produce 2020 field crops and 833 vegetable varieties, together with the varieties registered in 242; With their knowledge, skills and experience, they once again demonstrated that they have a great share in domestic and national seed production.

In addition, 2019 thousand 1 tons of the total amount of 143 million 466 thousand 503 tons of certified seeds produced in 557 were obtained only from 44% domestic and national seeds produced by our Research Institutes affiliated with our Ministry.

As of 2020, by the Research Institutes of our Ministry; 74 varieties of field crops and 8 varieties of horticultural crops have been registered, and a total of 82 local seeds have been made available to the industry.

On the other hand; 10 Domestic Potato varieties have been developed and registered. Paddy seed has started from import to export and the first “Domestic Black Paddy” variety has been developed. Collaborations have been made to develop an industrial type of hemp for fiber. In terms of health, especially in terms of health, breeding studies of varieties with high mineral content and usefulness have been started in field crops.

"Turkey F1 Hybrid Seed Development and Public-Private Sector Cooperation Project in the Production of Vegetable Varieties" with a utilization rate of local hybrid varieties of vegetables, the last 18 years has been increased from 10% to 60%. In addition, the size of the vegetable gene pool in our institutes has increased 10 times and more than 8 samples of 15.000 vegetable species have been preserved in our 5 research institutes. Within the scope of cooperation with 21 private sector seed companies, more than 200 genetic materials were transferred to the private sector.

320 qualified lines and 42 varieties were developed in summer vegetable species, 214 lines and 31 types of them were transferred to the private sector. Our research institutes have registered a total of 14 varieties of 24 different types in order to supply medicinal and aromatic plants that are needed by pharmaceutical, perfumery, food, textile and some other sectors within the country.

Reminding that they launched "Atadan Toruna Seed Mobilization" in February as an indication of the importance they attach to seed production, Pakdemirli said that they decided to follow a 4-legged strategy including training, testing and certification, analysis and sapling specialization training within the scope of the launch.

Within the scope of the farmer training project, 2 thousand seed growers for 15 years; Explaining that they have started to provide theoretical and practical training on breeding methods aiming to produce high quality seeds using modern agricultural technologies, Pakdemirli said, “A seed grower mass with high knowledge will be formed and seed growers who are willing, knowledgeable and suitable for their techniques will be raised. Thus, in line with the needs of our country, upper-level certified seed production planning will be provided, efficiency in certified seed production will be increased and quality will be increased by reducing production losses. Imports will be reduced by increasing the export capacity of our country's seed industry. " he spoke.

And it quickly started seed production in modern seed preparation facilities. Hopefully, we will ensure that the seeds certified by TİGEM are distributed to all regions of our country's geography before the planting season and offered to the farmers of our country by you, our valuable dealers.
