Beijing Municipality's Ecology and Environment Office announced that as of August 2020, the number of 100 percent electric vehicles in the city exceeded 350 thousand.

Among these, 12 of which are 400 buses, 4 sanitary service trucks and 500 taxis are used as public transportation vehicles. According to official data, as of August, there are a total of 9 million 900 thousand motor vehicles in the city.

Lian Alping, one of the directors of Beijing Municipality's Ecology and Environment Department, stated that up to 2,5 percent of the concentration of PM45 particles, which form the basis of smog (foggy / polluted) air in the capital, is caused by mobile elements that pollute the atmosphere. Lian also stated that diesel and gasoline powered motor vehicles contributed 32 percent and 29 percent, respectively.

Thus, Beijing will adopt policies aimed at promoting the gradual removal of vehicles with high pollutant emissions and a ban on such vehicles from joining traffic on the city's main streets.
