Sports Facility for People with Disabilities from IMM

To IMM Istanbul; continues to provide modern, qualified and accessible sports fields. Wanting to facilitate the access of Istanbul to sports facilities, IMM opened the Yeşilvadi Sports Facility to contribute to the physical and mental development of disabled individuals.


Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) turned the Yeşilvadi Sports Facility in Ümraniye into a sports center for disabled individuals. The İBB Yeşilvadi Sports Facility, which has a 1,4 meter deep and 20 meter long 3-lane training pool, two studio halls and a squash hall, has been renovated to serve disabled individuals. The physical structure of the facility was made suitable for the use of disabled individuals within the scope of accessibility studies carried out by Spor Istanbul, which is under the body of the IMM Directorate of Youth and Sports. All units of the facility, which started operating with a studio section in the first stage, will provide exercise and sports services to cover all disability groups after the pandemic.

6 SESSIONS SPORTS SERVICE EVERY DAY FOR 6 DAYS

Yeşilvadi Sports Facility was first opened to the use of disabled individuals with its studio section. The studios, where 6 sessions are held on a daily basis, are planned according to the level of disability, with 1 to 5 people attending each session.

Sessions at the facility are carried out with expert trainers to contribute to the development of disabled individuals. At the Yeşilvadi Sports Facility, which is open every day of the week except Friday, members who have been diagnosed with mental disabilities and have received self-care training can register.

WITHOUT DELEGATION REPORT ALSO BENEFITS

Within the scope of preventive health service (OSH), members with advanced medical diagnoses such as Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Lordosis, Ankylosing Spondolitis and Perthes, but who do not have a disability committee report, are also given the opportunity to use the facility. After the applications of the specified groups, if the quotas are available, the facility is open to everyone.

POOL SESSIONS WILL START AFTER THE PANDEMIC

Some of the trainings on the agenda of the Yeşilvadi Sports Facility are planned to be operational after the end of the pandemic. In the pool sessions that have not yet been given due to the epidemic, those with severe cerebral palsy, spina bifida, neuromuscular diseases (muscle diseases) will receive training from expert trainers in the specially designed hydrotherapy pool. Those who reach a certain level at the end of the training will be directed to the surrounding facilities within the scope of the inclusion program, and in this way, members will be transformed at the facility. After the registration of individuals with severe disabilities, if there is a vacant quota in the sessions, individuals with mild orthopedic disabilities and hearing and visually impaired individuals will be able to attend these sessions.

The swimming pool will be opened to use after the studio halls as of the date when the epidemic risk disappears. 8 sessions of group work will be held for disabled individuals in the swimming pool. If requested, it is also included in the plans to create an activity area for the parents of disabled individuals.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES.

Yeşilvadi Sports Facility will turn into a science home that will be a resource for disabled individuals and sports-based scientific studies with academic studies. In addition, it will set an example to raise the standards of other facilities and will create an infrastructure for the Paralympic branches.
