Chinese railway manufacturer CRRC Shandong had ordered 71 wagons ordered by the London Underground to be used for the replacement and maintenance of wagons. The first wagon of this order was delivered with a ceremony today.

Announcing the shipment of the first batch last month, CRRC said this is the first time a European metro operator has ordered Chinese-made wagons. He believed Britain would 'welcome Chinese-made wagons for the first time' as the 'birthplace of the railroad'.

It is stated that these vehicles are suitable for use on both the National Railway network and the London Underground lines; This means they must comply with the European Union TSI, the National Technical rules and London Underground standards declared in the UK, the CRRC said the wagons will have 'innovatively developed' brake systems, couplers and bogies to meet the three standard sets.

Open wagons have a low-rise structure to maximize the volume that can be transported within a limited loading gauge, while multifunctional flat wagons have movable side and end walls to allow them to be used for transporting bulk materials.
