At least 15 people died and 3 people were seriously injured as a result of the derailment of the passenger train from Aberdeen in the west of Scotland to Glasgow in the town of Stonehaven 6 kilometers later.
According to the first determinations, 4 driver and 1 passengers died in the train belonging to the Scottish State Railways (ScotRail), whose 2 wagons were knocked down due to heavy rainfall in the morning. For the injured, it was recorded that 2 emergency vehicles, 30 of which were air ambulances, were dispatched to the region.
While the Scottish Transport Ministry did not provide information about the number of injured, it was stated that the situation of those who were treated in the hospital was severe.
Authorities state that the Stonehaven Valley, through which the railway passes, is quite narrow, there was excessive fog in the area where the accident took place, and the soil under the rails may have slipped due to recent floods and landslides.
Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon stated in his post on Twitter that the accident was serious and that they faced a great incident based on the reports he received.
