The communiqués regarding the commercial and amateur fishery fishing to be carried out in seas and inland waters were published in the Official Gazette.
Making a statement about these published communiqués and emphasizing that the communiqués will be implemented between 1/9/2020 and 31/8/2024, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli said, “These communiqués regulate the obligations, restrictions and rules regarding fishery fishing in order to protect the resources of fisheries and ensure their sustainable management, taking scientific, environmental, economic and social issues into consideration”.
Stating that the communiqués were prepared with a participatory approach, taking into account the views and suggestions of all stakeholders of the fisheries sector, Minister Pakdemirli said, “The communiqués aim to protect the rights of fish and fishermen who earn their bread by law”.
Minister Pakdemirli, also referring to some important regulations introduced in the communiqués, continued as follows: “Fisheries fishing with purse-seine and trawl method will start on September 15 in the Mediterranean and September 1 in our other seas and will end by April 15 in all our seas.
On the other hand, our coastal fishermen who hunt with traditional methods will be able to do their fishing activities throughout the year provided that they comply with the regulations stipulated by the communiqué.
Light fishing is prohibited in Marmara Sea, Çanakkale and Istanbul Strait, Black Sea and inland waters, which are the breeding and feeding areas of our important fish species, which have a sensitive ecosystem.
In breeding areas with sensitive ecosystems, protection areas have been established in Fethiye, Hisarönü Bay and Antalya province Kaş-Kekova-Aperlia, especially in Muğla.
Some regulations have been made in terms of location, time, species, length, hunting distance and fishing gear in aquaculture. The minimum length of the fishable fishes of Bandit and Minekop has been increased and the amount of weight that can be caught in octopus * has been decreased in accordance with the weight rule applied in the European Union.
With the species protected by international conventions, some cartilaginous fish species in our seas and the fishing of endangered species such as oil fish in our inland waters are completely prohibited.
The alternation method was applied in sea eggplant fishing, the north of İzmir and Balıkesir Ayvalık region were closed to hunting, and the south of İzmir and Aydın and Muğla regions were opened for hunting.
It is compulsory to obtain a transport certificate for the transportation of 50 kg or more of the fishery products obtained through hunting. Effective from January 1, 2021, fishing vessels, fisheries cooperatives, unions, producer unions or higher unions that employ fisheries technicians, technicians, fisheries and fisheries technology engineers may be authorized to issue a transport certificate.
Marking of fishing gears has become mandatory as of September 1, 2021. Light hunting is also prohibited using white light.
The recreational hunting model, which is widely applied in Europe and developed countries and operated with the private hunting principle, was included for the first time.
This restriction has been lifted, while amateur fishermen can only hunt on public holidays in the rented areas.
In amateur fishing, the use of any kind of light for hunting is prohibited. In terms of life and property safety, light can be used for lighting purposes inside the boat and on the shore, provided that it does not exceed 50 watts.
New regulations have been made for commercial recreational fishing tourism activities.
Underlining that fishery products are important for our country's economy and human nutrition, Minister Pakdemirli said, “It is important for our fishermen to hunt in accordance with the regulations introduced by the communiqué in order to protect our fisheries stock and ensure the sustainability of fishing.”
