TCDD Tasimacilik General Manager and Chairman of the Board Kamuran Yazıcı continued their study trips with Istanbul Region. During the two-day inspection tour, Yazıcı visited the Gebze workshop and Maltepe Marmaray Control Center and met with the staff.
Yazıcı said, “Our Istanbul is a world city, an industrial city, a city of tourism. It is a city where the population of our country is concentrated. Istanbul is the city where two continents meet. The duties and responsibilities of our Istanbul Regional Directorate are both very broad and very heavy. With the railway investments of Istanbul, the world city, Gebze-Halkalı While the suburban line reached the metro standard, an uninterrupted rail crossing between the two continents was achieved. Ankara-Istanbul, Konya-Istanbul high-speed rail lines increased its interaction with Anatolian cities. Marmaray offers brand new opportunities not only in terms of passenger transportation but also in terms of freight transportation. The first transit train from China to Europe via Marmaray is the best example of this. China, a major portion of its transportation to Europe, Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway will carry out with Turkey. Again, Istanbul Region is our center where passenger and freight transportation is carried out to Europe. Halkalı- The travel time between Kapıkule and Edirne will decrease from 4 hours to 1 hour 20 minutes, and the cargo transportation time will decrease from 6 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes.
