Baiyun Airport of Guangzhou city in southern China Guangdong province has launched facial recognition system as an innovation for domestic flight passengers. At the airport from now on, after presenting an ID card, the passenger will register his / her face with a flight record, hand over his / her baggage, pass the security check and can also be checked for boarding.
Yang Hongyu, chief information officer of Baiyun Airport, said the service will create a database for each passenger so that they can only use their face to identify them throughout the boarding process. The system extracts data on the facial lines of the passengers and matches them to their routes. Yang says that the system reduces the control made by human or eye and hand, and increases the efficiency through automatic control; Therefore, he stated that it increased the security level in general.
It is known that air traffic in China is also rapidly reviving after the Covid-19 outbreak was curbed. As a matter of fact, it was announced that the civil aviation sector recorded an average of 14,1 flights per day, increasing by 10 percent in June compared to May.
