Zeki Müren (6 December 1931 - 24 September 1996), Turkish singer, composer, songwriter, actress and poet. Referred to as "Sanat Güneşi" and "Paşa", Müren is considered one of the greatest names in Classical Turkish music. Childhood and education

He completed secondary school in Bursa, 2nd secondary school in Tahtakale. After finishing secondary school, he explained to his father that he had the desire to go to Istanbul, and with his approval he was enrolled in Istanbul Boğaziçi High School. He finished this school with first place. He gave his maturity exams very well and entered the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (now Mimar Sinan University). He graduated from the High Adornment Department Sabih Gözen workshop. He has exhibited design works many times, starting from his student years.

Music career

Zeki Müren started to learn musical information with the solfeggio and procedural lessons he took from Bursa Izzet Gerçeker in Bursa. In 1949, while he was studying at Boğaziçi High School, he continued his music education with the lessons he received from the cinema director and writer Arşavir Alyanak's father Agopos Efendi and another teacher, Udi Krikor. Later on, various works from Şerif İçli, who knew fasil music and had a wide repertoire, showed up; He benefited from Refik Fersan, Sadi Işılay, and Kadri Şençalar.

In 1950, when he was still a university student, he won the soloist exam, which was opened by TRT Istanbul Radio and attended by 186 candidates. On January 1, 1951, he gave his first radio concert in a program broadcast live on Istanbul Radio and this concert was very popular. The reed team accompanying him in this concert included Hakkı Derman, Serif İçli, Şükrü Tunar, Refik Fersan and Necdet Gezen. After the concert, Hamiyet Yüceses called the studio and congratulated him. In those years, TRT Ankara Radio was the most listened radio in Anatolia and Istanbul Radio could not be listened clearly from Anatolia. In the same week, he took the clarinet artist Şükrü Tunar Müren to his own record factory in Yeşilköy and filled his song "Muhabbet Kuşu". Thanks to this plaque, Müren was recognized throughout Anatolia.

Zeki Muren, after this successful first concert of works and plaque studies began regular radio voice in Turkey. Radio programs lasted for fifteen years, most of them live programs. Müren gave himself more to stage and record studies. He gave his first stage concert on May 26, 1955. He usually wore stage clothes he designed. He brought various innovations to the reed team, such as dressing in uniform and using a T podium.

He performed alternately with Behiye Aksoy in Maksim Casino's stages. In 1976, he gave a concert at Royal Albert Hall in London and became the first Turkish artist to perform at this venue.

Zeki Müren filled more than 600 records and cassettes. The first song he read on the record is Şükrü Tunar's “Bir Muhabbet Kuşu” song. Müren 1955 "Magnolia he" with the song won the Gold Plaque Award for the first time in Turkey. In 1991 he was elected State Artist.

He composed about 300 songs. Beginning at the age of seventeen, the acemkürdi song that started with the title "My life of poison is my life" is the first song he composed. Songs such as “Now You Are Far Away” (Suzinâk), “Magnolia” (Kürdilihicazkâr), “A Bunch of Yasemen”, “Don't Let Another Dream Come Into Your Eyes” (nihavend) are often read and liked songs. Zeki Müren also read these songs on records.

Acting career

Zeki Müren began acting in 1954 in the movie Waited Song. After this great commercial success, he played most of his songs in 18 more films he composed. In 1965, he played the leading role in the play Çay and Sempati, which was staged by the Arena Theater.

Other labors

Zeki Müren continued his career in pattern design, in addition to his successful interpretation and acting careers. He designed many of his stage clothes himself. Müren, who is also engaged in painting, has exhibited his designs and paintings in many provinces since his student years.

In 1965, he published his poetry book called Bıldırcın Yağmuru, which contains nearly 100 poems. Some of his poems in this book are Pink Rains, Bursa Street, Second Loyal Friend, Grass Scissors, The Last Fight, These Composers Are for You, My Literature, Kazancı Yokusu and I Am Looking for Myself.

Private life

With the usual mold of 1950s dresses and stage behavior in forcing Turkey he kept permanently on the public interest. Although she had more ordinary clothes and hairstyles in her early years, she was on stage with feminine clothes, hairstyles and make-up in the following years. He never made a statement about his sexual orientation, and from time to time his name was mentioned with women, but the general opinion was that he was gay.

He is known for taking care of speaking a regular and waxing Turkish. The commemoration of “Pasha of Music” started with the use of the people of Antalya for the first time after the Aspendos concert in 1969. He was pleased to be mentioned in this way, but explained that he did not know why it was deemed appropriate. He did his military service in Ankara Infantry School (1957 months), Istanbul Harbiye Representation Office (1958 months) and Çankırı (6 months) as a reserve officer in 6-3. Zeki Müren's Karagöz artist Hayali Saf Deri took the stage in Bursa, the puppet birthplace of Metin Özlen. His birthday, December 6, has been celebrated as Turkish Art Music Day since 2012 with the suggestion made by Onur Akay from TRT Music screens.

Discomfort and death

Zeki Müren has moved away from stage life and media especially in the last 6 years of her life due to heart disease and diabetes. He was retired at his home in Bodrum. He describes this period as "listening to himself" [21]. On September 24, 1996, he died in a heart attack during the ceremony held for him on TRT İzmir Television. His funeral was removed with a great ceremony attended by a large crowd of people. His grave is in Emirsultan Cemetery, in his birthplace, Bursa.

In his will, he left all his assets to the Turkish Education Foundation and the Mehmetçik Foundation. TEV and Mehmetçik Foundation built Zeki Müren Fine Arts Anatolian High School in Bursa in 2002. TEV Bursa Branch President Mehmet Çalışkan stated in a statement on 24 September 2016 that the foundation benefited from the Zeki Müren Scholarship Fund in 20 years.

After his death, the artist's house, where he lived in Bodrum for the last years, was converted into Zeki Müren Art Museum with the protocol signed with the Ministry of Culture and opened to the public on 8 June 2000.
