HABRAS-like infrastructures exist in a limited number of countries developing their own weapon systems such as the USA, UK, France and Germany. Countries who want to use HABRAS in case of making agreements will be able to come to Konya and use it. Thus, Turkey, the test checks the position of the countries that will position the country as well as abroad who perform the testing services and their tests.

Our country has made great strides especially in defense, aviation and space studies in recent years and has taken its place among the few countries that can develop its own ammunition, its own satellite and its own aircraft with domestic and national opportunities. In parallel with these developments, intensive studies are carried out to test the related systems and sub-systems with national facilities.

With the testing of systems developed with national facilities, the national test infrastructures are eliminated, the dependence on abroad in this regard is eliminated, critical national information is prevented from going abroad, and economic resources that go abroad for the purpose of carrying out these tests are maintained in the country.

One of the nationally important infrastructures established by TÜBİTAK SAGE to provide test support to the works carried out in the fields of defense, aviation and space is the Target Ballistic Rail System Dynamic Test Infrastructure (HABRAS). The opening of HABRAS, the construction of which started in June 2017, was held on October 31, 2018 by the President. ATDM Gr. This test infrastructure, established on an area of ​​3 km2 within the structure of K.ligi, has the feature of being one of the few infrastructures of the world with its double track line of 2.000 meters.

HABRAS is a field test infrastructure and its main feature is that it enables controlled testing of systems or subsystems in close proximity to actual usage conditions or tactical conditions. The controlled testing environment is an important tool that allows a designer to validate his design and collect data to update the design if needed. In this context; The HABRAS infrastructure also allows dynamically testing systems or subsystems at subsonic and subsonic speeds.

For example, the drilling effectiveness of a bunker piercing bomb in the air ammunition class cannot be statically tested during the development of the project. The main reason for this is that the warhead needs to reach a speed close to the sound speed in order to show the penetration efficiency. In addition, the design maturity of the ammunition, which is in the process of development, does not allow it to reach the relevant speed, leaving the aircraft. In this case, the relevant bunker piercing bomb is accelerated on the rails in HABRAS to the impact speed under tactical conditions by means of rocket engines and hit the target at the end of the rail line. In this way, the drilling efficiency of the bunker piercing bomb can be observed in HABRAS in a controlled way and the necessary data can be obtained for the ammunition development process.

Similarly, tests are carried out in HABRAS for satellite systems or large subsystems (more than 1.000 kg), which are included in the satellite systems or aircraft that are being developed with national possibilities and need to be analyzed under high speed and high acceleration. Thus, important data can be obtained in the development process of the relevant systems in terms of design.

At HABRAS, many different and various systems / subsystems can be tested. Some of these tests are summarized below:

Ammo: Warhead drilling efficiency, warhead performance, plug performance, propulsion systems, the behavior of the seeker system in the dynamic environment and the behavior of the guidance system in the dynamic environment

Personnel Recovery: Emergency launch seats, parachute (within the scope of aviation and space studies), canopy departure, rocket catapult system, survival kits

Environmental Effects: Rain / ice / particle, high acceleration load, explosive pressure impact

Propulsion Systems: Solid fuel rocket engine performance, liquid fuel rocket engine performance, aircraft / aircraft / spacecraft engine tests

Finally, the tests of SARB-83, which was developed by TÜBİTAK Defense Industry Research and Development Institute (SAGE) with its own resources, and prepared for mass production, were successfully carried out in HABRAS.
