Another important threshold was exceeded in the Fahrettin Altay - Narlıdere metro line, where Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continued its works without any pandemic process. The first rail source on the line, where 78,37 percent of the tunnel excavations were completed, was made with a symbolic ceremony attended by President Soyer.

The construction of the metro line between Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere District Governorship, for which the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality laid the foundation in June 2018, continues. Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer Balçova has examined the works on the 7 kilometer line consisting of 7,2 stations, namely Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Narlıdere, Martyrdom and District Governorship. Soyer made the first weld on the subway rails by descending approximately 30 meters below the ground between Fahrettin Altay - Balçova stations.

“The works are going on at a fast pace”

Commenting on the work, President Soyer said, “Friends made me the first source today. It was very exciting. It really is something like putting on a ray ray. At that time, we said 'We are weaving İzmir with iron nets'. Today, the first source of those iron nets was realized. I was excited. Indeed, we are once again at the crossroads for our metro line. ” President Soyer stated that the works continue during the pandemic process and said, “Friends have never stopped. I am proud of each of them. Despite the pandemic, the work continued. Now they continue to work at a fast pace. Infrastructure work of this network will be completed within a year. After that, we will complete the process with the fine works of the line. ”

78,37 percent of the tunnels were completed

In addition to the station and tunnel excavation support works in the Balçova part of the line, the casting of tunnel lining concrete has been completed. Tunnel excavation support works were carried out at Çağdaş Station. Rough construction is ongoing at this station. Tunnel excavation support productions have been completed at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital Station, but tunnel coating concrete casting works are ongoing. Thus, as of last June, 5 thousand meters of 104 thousand 4 meters total tunnel was opened and 78,37 percent of the tunnels were completed.

With the completion of the line, the number of stations in the light rail network will reach 24. Thus, a passenger who takes the metro from Bornova EVKA-3 can go directly to Narlıdere. The length of the rail system in İzmir will reach from 179 to 186,5 kilometers.

Dr. Soyer, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary. Buğra Gökçe, Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, Barış Karcı, Yıldız Devran, Eser Atak, Suphi Şahin and Rail System Head Mehmet Oğuz Ergenekon accompanied.
