The tender for the Kanal Istanbul project, which was announced as the 'crazy project' by President and AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2011, has not yet been awarded. However, by connecting the Black Sea to Marmara, details of the new city to be built around the channel, which is said to alleviate ship traffic on the Bosphorus, began to be clarified. In the first stage covering Arnavutköy, the fields will be opened for development. The hotels, fairground, technology and logistics center will rise on them.

The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has approved three of the seven stages of 1/5000 scale master and 1/1000 scale implementation development plans that will determine the construction in the region.

Agricultural land will be opened for construction

The zoning plans covering the first phase of the Yenişehir project open the agricultural lands in Arnavutköy to construction. The focus of the first stage, which is 39 million square meters, is trade and tourism. The 2 million square meter area allocated in Yeniköy, east of Kanal Istanbul's Black Sea entrance, will be the logistics center. The bulk of the logistics of the city is planned to be transferred to this region, supported by the container port and warehouses of the cargo city developed at Istanbul Airport.

Technology and fair areas will be established

Alongside the airport, it is aimed to establish a technology base on an area of 2.2 million square meters allocated in Tayakadın. The 1.4 million square meter area that will serve fair and congress tourism will also be associated with the airport and technology development zone.

Hospital, rehabilitation center, health villages

In the prepared plan, a place where activities related to health tourism can take place has been designed in Baklalı region. In this area, there will be a hospital, rehabilitation center, health villages and elderly care homes that will serve both nationally and internationally and include all specialties.

Farms will be established for ecological tourism

An area of 1.5 million square meters in a region close to Terkos Lake in the northwest of the planning area has been reserved as a tourism, commercial and residential area. Farms will be established in this area where animal and agricultural activities are intense. Agricultural tourism is targeted in this area where hobby gardens, recreation areas, bicycle routes, blue parks, children's and education camps will be found. In the first phase of the Yenişehir reserve building area, an area of 1 million 393 thousand square meters was reserved as a tourism and commercial area. A part of this area will include camping areas and facilities that will allow outdoor sports.
