As life begins to return to normal and summer season comes, the density of the pool, sea and beaches increased. Experts, who foresee that there will be trips to the holiday resorts due to the Eid al-Adha, recommend that a distance of 1.5 - 2 meters be left between the sunbeds on the beaches. According to experts, especially because of the high risk of infection in pools, bones must be used, and showers must be taken at the inlets and outlets.

Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Specialist Dr. Songül Özer mentioned the important points to be considered in sea, beach and pool usage against various infections and Covid-19 risk.

No need to wear a mask at sea

Dr. Songül Özer pointed out that it is necessary to pay attention to social distance rules during the holiday and continued his words as follows:

“We're going to the sea, of course. There are businesses that create private family lodges, leaving a distance of 1.5-2 meters between the sun loungers on the beach. In such precautions, the probability of transmission of the virus is close to zero, which means that it is really low. There is no possibility to swim side by side in the sea, people must be at least 2-3 meters away from each other to be able to swim. So there is no need to wear a mask when swimming. It should not be swim in a very tight place, in an environment where people play ball and have fun. We always remind that no more than 1.5 meters should be approached. This virus does not fly in the air, so there is no need to wear a mask if there is no person within 1.5 - 2 meters or if there is no possibility of coming to the bottom while swimming. ”

Mask may not be worn while sunbathing

Although there is a distance of 1.5-2 meters between them, he said that there are people wearing masks while sunbathing. Songül Özer said, “While sunbathing is already isolated, if this distance is maintained, we do not consider it necessary to wear a mask while sunbathing. If the person feels sluggish, sick, he should not go to crowded environments anyway. First of all, we are in the open air, if we were in a closed environment, we could say that a mask should be worn, but we do not see it necessary as long as the distance rule is applied in the open environment. ”

Dr. Songül Özer: “If there is a pool and a sea, the sea should be preferred”

Stating that many of the hotels in holiday resorts have the opportunity to enter both the sea and the pool, Özer said, “If both are present, the sea should definitely be preferred. In the cleanest and obeying hotels, there is always a risk of infection, even in the largest pool. If there is no deliberate pollution, the probability of contamination of a microorganism from the sea is close to 0. If a ship has left its residues, there is a visible pollution such as bags, garbage or if it is a possible place where sewage flows, it is not necessary to swim in the sea anyway. Except for infection, there are important dangers such as metal poisoning. We can mention that the surface, moss and coastal cleaning can be entered from the seas. ”

Infection risk increases in small pool

Özer pointed out that those who want to enter the pool or who do not have access to the pool to cool off should pay attention to the size of the pool, “The smaller the pool, the higher the probability of infection. Here we can say that the risk of infection is related to density. The larger the pool, the less likely it is. There are pools not only in holiday resorts but also on sites. Therefore, crowded pools should not be preferred. The Ministry of Health has a new application. It was said how many people could enter the pool by square meter. There has never been such a study so far, it is truly a proper and correct application. 1 person application per 1 square meter in grocery stores and stores is now also valid for pools. First of all, this number needs to be complied with. We can also make an eye decision, it should not be preferred pools with people more than 1 or 2 meters. This is true for Covid-19. ”

Children should never be put into the pool with their diapers

Assuming that there is no Covid - 19 in our lives, Özer said that it is possible to spread various infections in the pools by contact and continued his words as follows:

“Infections in the hair, skin lesions on the face, arm, skin, leg, the most common small wart-shaped molluscum swellings, bacterial infections in open wounds, fungi in the toes and between the toes can be transmitted through contact in pools. Apart from these, it is highly likely that microorganisms in the urine are accidentally smuggled into the pool. It should never be put into the pool with diapers. If there are such problems in the body, it should not be entered into the pool considering the health of other people. In case of entering without knowing that such inconveniences exist, some enterprises ensure that they take a shower before entering the pool and use the disinfectant pit on the edge of the pool after showering. But it is also important what the liquid in that disinfectant pit is, its amount and how long it changes. There is no use in keeping the fluid in that pit unchanged for days. If it is a dense pool, it is absolutely necessary to change the liquid in the trough once every 6 hours, if not intense once a day. Bone must be absolutely necessary when entering the pool. Likewise, after leaving the pool, it is necessary to take a shower. ”

Swimming courses and summer schools want false tests

Özer said that some institutions request various tests for children and approval of the infection specialist for admission to swimming courses and summer schools. They want the test of hepatitis, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C. Let's put hepatitis A aside, Hepatitis B and C are transmitted through sexual intercourse, but not diseases passing through the urinary tract, but diseases passing through the blood. Children who are going to go to the pool or swimming course do not need to perform Hepatitis B and C tests and courses do not need these reports. The situation is a little different for hepatitis A: Hepatitis A does not involve urine, but feces. It is possible to mix with a water even if it is not a pool, but it must be drunk, not touching the body. In other words, water contaminated with the urine of a person with hepatitis or more of its feces needs to be swallowed to be smeared to a different person. Although there are tests to be asked for fungi, psoriasis, and other infections that can pass through the body and the pool, these tests are undesirable. ”

High risk of urinary tract infections in children

Pointing out that urinary tract infections are more common in women than men, Özer said, “Of course, the probability of infection in children is increased. In addition, as with any infection, the risk of urinary tract infection increases as well as all infection risks over 65 years of age. Parents can do several important tests before sending their children to swimming schools or summer schools. It is important whether there is a urinary tract infection and also they should see the skin diseases specialist for psoriasis, fungal and other body infections. He said that instead of looking for hepatitis B and C, the probability of contamination in the pool is almost zero, there are fungi and other infections in his hair, nail, and skin. ”
