The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly convened at the Yenikapı Eurasia Show and Art Center in July due to the pandemic conditions in July. One of the important topics of the busy agenda of the important parliamentary agenda, which discusses important articles about Istanbul, was the item of “giving a free transportation card to mothers with children aged 0-4 who live in Istanbul”. With the unanimous decision of the IMM Assembly, the mothers of 1 million 160 thousand children in Istanbul will be given a free transportation card.

The proposal was first brought to the agenda at the IMM Assembly session on January 16, 2020. In the IMM Assembly, the offer to give free cards to mothers was approved, provided that a positive opinion was obtained from the Court of Accounts. Thereupon, the IMM administration sent a letter to the Presidency of the Court of Accounts. In the opinion letter from the Court of Accounts, the following statements were made: “We do not have a duty to express an advisory opinion to public institutions or organizations. We cannot comment on this matter.”

FREE TRANSPORTATION WILL BE GIVEN FROM IMM BUDGET

After the article of the Court of Accounts, the issue was evaluated on the agenda today. In the Law, Public Relations, Women, Family and Children Commissions, it was found appropriate that the mothers of children aged 4 and under were given a free transportation card and the losses incurred by public transportation institutions from the municipal budget were followed by the municipal administration. The decision was adopted by the votes of the parties in the parliament.
