Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that PARDUS versions, which are still being developed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, are prepared for new technologies and added, “PARDUS will take its place among smart devices as well as desktop solutions. With the protocol we signed, it will be expanded in 10 thousand computers used in the central and provincial organizations of PARDUS Diyanet. ” said.

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Presidency of Religious Affairs and TÜBİTAK National Academic Network and Science Center (ULAKBİM) on the dissemination of the domestic and national operating system PARDUS. Ceremony, Minister Varank, Head of Religious Affairs Dr. Ali Erbaş was held with the participation of Ali Taha Koç, President of the Presidency Digital Transformation Office, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister and Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK.

Stating that PARDUS will be expanded with the signed protocol, Minister Varank said in his speech:

NATIONAL SOFTWARE MOVEMENT: Our Agency makes the most of the opportunities offered by technology. Our institution, which uses technology so effectively, took a decision that will set an example for all public institutions last year. By realizing the National Software Move; center, provincial and overseas organizations focused on nationalizing the information processing infrastructure.

EFFECTIVE SYSTEM: So far, 872 users have moved to PARDUS, the local and national software developed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM. The data on the cloud servers abroad has been moved to the institution's own data center. In addition, open source Jitsi video conferencing system, in which TÜBİTAK published its installation guide, was installed on Diyanet servers. Thus, our Agency became one of the institutions that put a safe and cost effective system into operation in the fastest pandemic process.

TO BE USED IN 10 THOUSAND COMPUTERS: With the protocol we will sign, it will be possible to expand Open Source PARDUS to ten thousand computers used in Diyanet's central and provincial organizations. This means the most widespread usage contract that has been made in the field of local and national software in the public sector.

OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES: Open Source technologies are critical to maintaining an independent and secure IT infrastructure. By using open source technologies, you are out of bounds that commercial firms are trying to draw on you. Of course, this situation encourages you to become a producer in the field of informatics and become a manufacturer.

CYBER SECURITY: Open source also offers significant advantages in terms of cyber security. Products purchased from abroad; can create significant costs in terms of both information security and external dependency. As the Ministry, we attach great importance to the development of the software ecosystem.

SOFTWARE SPINE: Software is at the base of all technologies based on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and human resources are at the backbone of the software. Software in order to carry forward our ecosystem, we established the Turkey Open Source Platform. The platform; We have stakeholders from the private sector, the public, non-governmental organizations and universities.

NATIONAL RESOURCES WILL STAY IN DOMESTIC: With the projects we will carry out; We aim to increase the number and quality of software developers in our country, and we want to produce critical software to be developed with open source domestically. In this way; We will reduce the external dependency in the field of informatics, ensure the national resources remain in the country and eliminate cyber security problems.

The dissemination of PARDUS is one of the projects we are carrying out meticulously.

SPECIAL FOR SMARTBOARDS: Currently, nearly 100 thousand users are using the PARDUS operating system. Institutions such as Health, Environment and Urbanism, Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of National Defense and Strategy and Budget Presidency are already in the process of analysis and transformation. We would like to introduce Pardus to our students at an early age. In this sense, we are expanding a Pardus version specific to Smart Boards in the classroom with the Ministry of Education. The more common the Pardus is; their deficiencies will be detected and reported as such and development processes will be accelerated.

IT WILL TAKE PLACE BETWEEN SMART DEVICES: We continue to prepare Pardus versions for new technologies. We will soon release a version for the most widely used ARM-processor based mini-computers in the Internet of Things world. Thus, Pardus will take its place among smart devices as well as desktop solutions. We are preparing interactive educational content to encourage young people to use this system.

DIGITAL BADGE: Turkey Open Source Platform for the last 2 months I want to give information about the ongoing Open Seminars. As of July, we will start online trainings, primarily PARDUS. We will give a digital badge to those who successfully complete these trainings. Those with a digital badge will have proven their competence in this field.

SOFTWARE SCHOOLS: Again, through the Open Source Platform, we will organize coding training programs and open software schools. These game learning based schools will give thousands of graduates every year.

DOMESTIC AND NATIONAL SOLUTIONS: One of our most important stakeholders in developing domestic and national solutions in the field of informatics is our Presidential Digital Transformation Office. On this occasion, I express my gratitude to our President Mr. Ali Taha Koç for their cooperation. Our National Technology Move will quickly come to life thanks to the concrete steps we take.

“WORKS GIVE THE LEVEL”

The President of Religious Affairs, Erbaş said, “As the Presidency, the joint efforts we have been carrying out since 2019 with TÜBİTAK, which continues its activities under the Ministry of Industry and Technology, are beginning to bear fruit. For more than a month, the local and national operating system PARDUS, developed by TÜBİTAK, has been used in our 502 computers in our head office. We have reached 400 points in our provinces and districts, at the point of using PARDUS ”.

CONTENT OF THE PROTOCOL

Within the scope of the signed protocol, TÜBİTAK will carry out promotional and educational activities within the Department of Religious Affairs, Pardus installation on client computers, and conversion of application and server systems to open source counterparts. LiderAhenk will be installed for remote central management of clients and Engerek for identity management.
