The Chamber of Environmental Engineers Istanbul Branch has been a professional organization that has adopted the principle of defending the rights of colleagues since its establishment, as well as all its technical works; science, labor and nature continued. In all his works, he kept the ecological life and the public interest above all interests, made determinations about the problems that concern the society, developed policies and proposed solutions by taking power only from members and scientific studies.
Kanal Istanbul project was first announced to the public in 2011 as the “Crazy Project Kanal Istanbul”. The demolition project, which was claimed to be jealous of the world, later entered the zoning law as a simple waterway project. The waterway project, which is a product of the effort to increase the market value of the Yenişehir real estate project planned to be built in the north of Istanbul, is tried to be prevented from being seen as a whole with other projects in the region by especially being emphasized by the government.
Chamber of Environmental Engineers Istanbul Branch; It also accepts a responsibility to fight against the destruction of ecological habitats, which are the common living space of all living things. With this approach, he has followed the projects planned in the North of Istanbul in the process and has continued to do so. After the first EIA Report of the project was published, these projects were examined in detail in the "Kanal Istanbul and New City Building Reserve Areas" technical review report published in May 2018 by the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Environmental Engineers and presented to the public for informing the public.
Ministry of Environment and Urbanization published at the end of December 2019, “Kanal Istanbul (Coastal Structures [Yacht Ports, Container Ports and Logistic Centers], Sea Area Acquisition, Dip Dredging, Concrete Plants) EIA” report and “1 / 100.000 Istanbul Environmental Plan Revision ”is trying to put into effect the Istanbul demolition projects.

The Chamber of Environmental Engineers works by other chambers affiliated to TMMOB; they continued independently in the public interest. This understanding of professional organizations was not welcomed by the government; A new agenda was introduced in May 2020 regarding the regulation of the laws of professional chambers. With the regulation planned to be made, it is aimed to remove the control authority of TMMOB, to damage the common act culture of the union by changing the election system, to prevent the election of the members of the elected board of directors and to cut the relationship of the union-affiliated chambers with the social opposition. The discomfort felt by the use of science and technique for the benefit of the public in the headings of urban and ecological struggle and social-cultural struggle manifests itself in professional organizations with threats of legal regulation.
Chamber; It aimed to dominate honesty and trust, and to protect professional discipline and morality not only with each other but also with the public. Again; Implementing all activities required by the public and the country to protect the interests, natural resources, environmental and historical values and cultural heritage are among its main goals. Although TMMOB's law and the principles of the union have been the basis for all the work carried out by TMMOB; has taken its basic strength and dynamics from its responsibility towards society, its members, colleagues and nature. As we will not allow the removal of TMMOB from these principles and working understanding based on the establishment purposes, by any legal arrangement; We will always face all interventions to TMMOB law without consulting the subject's interlocutors.
Environmental Engineers Istanbul Branch; It has always been involved in the front of labor and science in the struggle for equality, freedom and democracy, in the fight against ecological destruction, in the defense of living spaces, and will continue to take place.
