A new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) against the epidemic measures taken within the scope of the restrictions, reduced daily rate of greenhouse gas emissions by 17,4 per cent in Turkey.
According to the information received from the authorities of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the measures taken against the coronavirus epidemic, which adversely affected the economic development of the countries and cost thousands of lives, contributed to the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change, as well as the increase in air quality.
The measures taken within the scope of the fight against Kovid-19 caused the demand for coal and oil to decrease. Accordingly, coal demand decreased by 8 percent in the first quarter and global oil demand decreased by approximately 5 percent in the first quarter.
Within the scope of the fight against coronavirus, travel restrictions, measures to close the borders and workplaces, personal vehicle use and air travel also reduced.
Restrictions on global economic activities have led to a significant reduction in the use of fuel for transportation. While the production from nuclear power plants decreased significantly, especially in Europe and the USA, the demand for natural gas decreased by about 2 percent compared to last year.
GLOBAL ANNUAL ENERGY REQUEST REDUCED BY 1,5 PERCENT
Due to the measures taken against coronavirus and restrictions, weekly energy demand has decreased by 15 percent in China, 17 percent in Europe, and 30 percent in India, which has a full quarantine.
With the restrictions applied in all countries, global annual energy demand decreased by about 1,5 percent. This decline was 3,8 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to last year.
Greenhouse gas emissions also dropped sharply as a result of reduced use of fossil fuels due to restrictions on travel and other restrictions around the world.
