The bay, whose homeland is Anatolia and the Balkans, is one of the characteristic plants of the Mediterranean vegetation. In our country, bay, Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea regions are spread along the entire coastline and this plant is found at altitudes of about 600-800 meters. In the world, it can be grown in all Mediterranean countries where the Mediterranean climate prevails and on the Black Sea coast of Russia.

The ever-increasing world population leads to an increase and diversification of human needs. The awareness of people about food supply, their desire to be protected from synthetic substances as much as possible increases the demand for ecological or naturally collected products, which is reflected in non-wood forest products. Mediterranean Bay, which is one of the non-wood forest products and important medicinal aromatic plants of our country and also has an important place in our foreign trade, also gets its share from this demand.

In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry launched the "Bay Action Plan" in 2016 in order to ensure sustainable use of leaves and seeds from natural distribution areas of the laurel, to reduce production costs, to decrease the depreciation in production and to increase the income of the forest villagers.

Pakdemirli said, “With this action plan, we are opening additional income gates to our forest villagers. In this context, we have made an economic contribution of 2019 million lira to the forest villagers in the production stages of the bay, which was produced in 115. We have prepared and implemented many action plans to date. I have no doubt that this action plan will also reach its goal successfully. Such practices will be the locomotive of rural development. ”
