What kind of aircraft is the F35?

What kind of flight is the f-35
What kind of flight is the f-35

The F35 fighter has been on the agenda lately. The F35 fighter that we want to buy from the USA has turned into a crisis between the two countries. The reason is the S-400 air defense system to be purchased from Russia. So what is the F35 fighter features, price, speed? What are the F35 models, what are the differences between them?

F35 fighter jets are called 5th generation fighter jets. F 35 warplanes are made with the contribution of a total of 9 countries, among which is our country. United States, Britain, Turkey, Italy, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia. In addition, our country produces many parts of this plane.

The adventure of the F-100s, which are planned to be bought in total for our Air Force, and the 32 requested by the Navy, is briefly as follows: F-35 started to be developed in the late 35s, it made its first flight in 1990 but due to technical problems that occurred, 2006 It is a state-of-the-art but quite coarse fighter plane that could not go into mass production until about half of the years. Although it is a single engine, it is a 2010th Generation "Deep Attack", a bomber-weighted "Multirole" (Multi Purpose) aircraft that offers almost the same performance as dual engine aircraft thanks to the F-135 engine it uses. We call it bombardment because it is not sufficient for Air-Air missions as much as a thoroughbred fighter due to its design and construction. It is not expected in such a thing anyway, as its task is to infiltrate enemy territory and hit critical ground targets. However, of course, it can also perform Air-Air missions when necessary. It is among the news reflected in the press that the planes that have acquired the latest software updates have come a long way at this point.

There are basically 3 different versions of the aircraft. The difference of the first model F-35A compared to other F-35 models is that it is produced in such a way that it can land and take off from the standard airports we call conventional landing and take-off. There is also a built-in 25mm gun in this configuration. It has a total capacity of 180 rounds. It has an internal fuel capacity of 8 tons. It has a range of approximately 2200 km and an operational radius of 1100 km. It can perform air refueling. This operation can be performed on tanker planes that are "Boom" operators. It was developed specifically to replace the F-16 and its equivalent combat aircraft. Turkey, as well as the US, Israel, Italy, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, Australia and Denmark has already ordered from this version. The unit cost of this version is around $ 89 million.

The second version of the F-35B is that compared to other F-35 models, the biggest difference is that it can land and take off from standard airports, which we call vertical landing and take-off, as well as landing and take-off from runways with limited space such as helicopter ships. (In fact, it is a bit wrong to say exactly vertical landing and take off, short landing vertical landing may be more accurate, as a result, vertical take off is also possible.) Thanks to exhaust steering technology, the F-35B can take off vertical landing just like a helicopter. This configuration does not have an internal ball. A 25mm ball can be attached as an external pod. This gun has a total capacity of 220 rounds. It has 6 tons of internal fuel capacity. It has a range of approximately 1700 km and an operational radius of 830 km. Air refueling can be done by “Probe and Drogue” refueling method. It has been developed specifically to replace the AV-8B Harrier fighter jets. In addition, because there is not much difference between the F-35A in general, it can replace the F-35A in its aircraft. Turkey has yet to give an official order for this aircraft but our Navy as mentioned above (for use in TCG TCG-Thrace and Anatolia-ship) has requested a total of 32 F-35B taken. For the US Marine Corps, Britain and Italy ordered this model for the navy forces.

If we come to the last one of the basic versions, the F-35C: The difference between the F-35C and other models is that it is designed to land and take off on aircraft carriers. There are some structural differences in this model. The most obvious of these is that the wing area of the F-35C is larger than other F-35 versions. In this way, thanks to the large wing area, the aircraft can be held in the air more easily even at low speeds while taking off from aircraft carriers with catapult technology. It is more ergonomically designed as it is customized for use on aircraft carriers. Its wings can be folded while in the park, so it takes up less space. This version does not have an internal ball either. As an external pod, a 25mm ball can be attached. This gun has a total of 220 rounds. The aircraft has a 9-ton internal fuel capacity, a range of approximately 2600 km and a radius of 1100 km. It was specifically developed to replace the F / A-18 Hornet fighter jets. In addition, just like the F-35B, it can replace the F-35A in its aircraft, which will replace the F-35A, as there is not much difference with the F-XNUMXA in general. Turkey has yet to give an official order for this aircraft and does not intend to give in now. Since this model is not an aircraft carrier of our country or not, it is not a necessary condition. Except for the U.S. Navy, there is no official buyer for now.

After the basic versions, there is actually a version that we can name as the 4th Configuration. F-35I This version, called Adir, is a spolia model from the F-35As that Israel received and designed according to itself. Generally, the features are exactly the same as the F-35A. The biggest difference is the electronic warfare capability. F-35I Adir is estimated to have a much different electronic warfare capability than the factory's F-35 models. This means, of course, that it has a much higher quality, complicated and powerful electronic warfare capability than potentially factory-made F-35s. In addition, Israel gives Israel the opportunity to access the source code that the USA does not give to anyone except England. In this way, Israel can use its own production weapons and technologies in the F-35s without any problems.

Although not many of them are read after these, there is one last model. Unlike the F-35As, which are designed according to Canada's special specifications and named as CF-35, the F-35s use the “Probe and Drogue” refueling method used in the B and C model for parachute and refueling. Apart from this, it is no different from other F-35As.

Aside from these specific differences, it has fixed features that are common to all versions. If we need to talk about them briefly, the maximum speed of the plane can reach 1.6 Mach, which is about 1700 km per hour. It can climb up to a maximum of 50.000 feet, or about 15 km above ground. The maximum take-off weight is specified as 31 tons. It can carry around 18 tons of extra cargo. It can carry a maximum of 12 250 kg MK-82 bombs or 6 1 ton MK-84 bombs when stealth capability is not required. With these loads, it can carry 2 Air-Air missiles. In a scenario where the aircraft is loaded for Air-Air mission only (in cases where stealth capability is not required), it can carry a maximum of 14 Air-Air missiles.

Apart from all these, some of the features that make the F-35 an F-35 and enable us to make a “flying computer” fit are:

  • It can even detect Ballistic Missiles fired from long distances, as every direction is filled with heat sensors. So much so that in a test conducted in Alaska, 1000 KM could detect a Ballistic Missile fired from a distance and monitor it on its screen.
  • It can transfer a detected target to the screen of another aircraft or another ship.
  • It can take control of a Ballistic Missile fired from friendly forces while it is in the air and direct it.
  • It can take control of a Cruise Missile fired from friendly forces in the air and guides it in the same way.
  • It can increase the radar range of an Air Defense System to which it is softwareally connected to the same network, using its own radar.
  • Since its radar is very advanced, it can shoot at targets it has determined from another aircraft, ship or any other element.
  • With these features, it can determine the target of a Ballistic Missile, a Navigational missile or a Gemisavar missile, lock itself to the target and transfer this lock to other elements at that moment or directly to the ammunition.
  • It can achieve tremendous harmony with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and can organize operations with these elements much more effective than an F-16 or another aircraft.

In short, it has a very high level of many features within the concept we call “Network Centric Warfare”.

Although the F-35 is an expensive aircraft, it contains quite new technologies for today's world and provides great opportunities to its user. With its low visibility feature, it cannot be detected by the enemy radars to a certain distance, and it gives the owner the ability to infiltrate the enemy territory is a very strategic capability. Likewise, the fact that enemy aircraft in the air detect it late is a feature that makes a significant difference. Thanks to its ability to fully utilize the concept of network-centric warfare, the user is literally a force multiplier for the air force.

So does this plane have any disadvantages? It has at least as many returns as it has yields. Thanks to a software called ALIS for short, F-35 is 100% dependent on the USA. If you have not read our article titled “Dark side of F-35: ALIS” that we have written about this system, we strongly recommend you to read it. If we briefly summarize the name of those who do not have more time to read and have no time to read, the aim of the system is to provide the autonomous creation of the necessary logistics line and spare parts supply with an internet network spread all over the world, which will keep the F-35 warplanes ready for war in various sources. Although this fancy expression sounds good, essentially, this system makes the plane completely dependent on the USA and it reduces the possibility of being used for a purpose that is contrary to the interests of the USA.

ALIS checks whether there is a part or component that needs to be replaced on the plane before the plane has landed, that is, if it is still in the air, and if there is such a situation, it detects that part or component and transfers it to the controlling systems in the place where it should be replaced. It also sends the same information to information systems in the USA. In other words, the USA becomes aware of the part that needs to change on the plane instantly. Even if this does not sound good, it may not seem like a very serious issue. Besides ALIS's ability, this is nothing. With this feature, ALIS also prevents countries from producing and stocking spare parts without being dependent on the USA. Because when the parts are in need, ALIS automatically contacts the manufacturer Lockheed Martin and requests for spare parts. Although this piece is a piece that can be produced in the user country, ALIS will have to be imported from the USA. Accordingly, the number of spare parts or spare parts in the inventory of the countries will be known in real time, by the USA.

What ALIS can cause is not limited to these. Knowing when and which part needs to be changed, ALIS automatically learns the combat readiness rate of F-35 fighter jets in different countries' inventory and sends this information to the USA instantly. While ALIS can officially do these things, it can do many more informally.

Despite all these disadvantages, the reason why neither our country's officials nor us researchers can easily give up this plane is the features we have explained above. Coming to the end of our article, we wish that our new generation fighter aircraft, the F-35s, will be delivered smoothly, accident-free and trouble-free, and will safely perform in our home sky, and we hope that it will be beneficial and auspicious for our country.

F35 Models and Distinguishing Features

F-35 combat aircraft are versatile aircraft. For this reason, 3 types of this fighter plane are made. These; F35A, F35B and F35C are models.

The features that distinguish these models are as follows.

  • F-35A conventional take-off model
  • Model with F-35B short take off vertical landing feature
  • Model that can land on F-35C aircraft carriers

As you can guess from these aircraft models, our country has made an agreement for the F 35A. Because our country does not have an aircraft carrier, especially the F-35B and F35C models are made for countries with aircraft carriers, and the vast majority will be used by the United States.

The total cost of the F-35A model to be purchased by our country is estimated to be 150-200 million dollars. This aircraft will replace F-16 Combat Aircraft in our country's air force.
