The M5 Üsküdar Ümraniye Çekmeköy metro line is a 20 kilometer-long subway on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, the first station of which is Üsküdar and the last station is Çekmeköy. M16 Kadıköy- It is the second metro of the Anatolian Side after the Kavşantepe line. The part of the line between Üsküdar and Ümraniye (Yamanevler) was opened on 15 December 2017 by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and the accompanying delegation.

Historical

The subway, which was originally considered a light subway, was later transformed into a heavy subway just like the M4 Line. The tender of the subway, which has been on the agenda many times, has been delayed frequently. The tender date of the line was first planned on August 2011, 9, but was postponed to August 26. The tender was launched on September 15, 2011. The tender with the lowest bid was won by the Doğuş Group. The contract was signed on 7 March 2012 and the price is 563,899,995.32 €. It was formally established on 6 June 2012. According to the statement, the completion date of the work was 4 May 2015, but the first stage was opened on 15 December 2017. The second phase of the line was opened on 21 October 2018 at Çekmeköy station with a ceremony.

In addition, the construction of the third phase of the line, Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli extension, has been started.

Construction of Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli part of the line, which is the 3rd stage, has started, and considering the extension to Sabiha Gökçen Airport for the 4th stage, the airport will be reached by 2 metro lines on the north and south axis.

In addition, from Üsküdar station to Marmaray line, from Altunizade station to Metrobus line, from Çarşı station to M12 (Göztepe 60.Yıl Parkı - Kazım Karabekir) metro line, M8 Bostancı - Dudullu Metro, which is under construction from Dudullu station, and finally Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe- In the 3rd stage, which was started to be extended to Sultanbeyli, from Sarıgazi station; It was integrated into the M13 Hospital-Newborn metro line under construction.

Metro vehicles manufactured in Spain on 23 November landed at Çakmak station on rails.
