Şakir Zümre, one of the close relatives of Marshal Fevzi Çakmak, was born in Varna in 1885. After completing his primary education here, he went to Geneva. He studied law in here.

During World War I, Varna entered the Bulgarian Parliament as a Turkish deputy. During this period, he met with Mustafa Kemal, who was a Turkish Military Attaché with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and established a close friendship. Upon the start of the War of Independence, he sent arms and ammunition to Anatolia and supported the national struggle. Later he founded the first private sector plant with the approval of the defense industry to come Ataturk's Turkey. In the first period, while the productions were made with foreign technical staff brought from Bulgaria, Turkish workers who were trained over time replaced the foreign technicians in the 1930s.

On the other hand, this factory started to export arms abroad in 1937, not only with domestic production. II. At the end of World War II, due to the military aid provided by the USA, Şakir Zümre Factories abandoned ammo production and switched to stove production. After Şakir Zümre's death on June 16, 1966, his factory only survived for 1 year and was closed in 1970.
