Sustainable Forest City will produce the food and energy it needs with a solar panel and a farm zone that will be installed around it.
Italian architecture firm Stefano Boeri Architetti has designed a Forest City / Forest City that will be the model for a smart and sustainable city planning in Cancun, Mexico.
With the Smart Forest City project, where an area of 557 hectares, which is currently used as a sand quarry, is reconsidered, a mixed-use development will be created that will be completely self-sufficient in terms of food and energy.
130 thousand people will live and there will be 400 different plant species
In the city, where 130 thousand people are planned to live, there will be 400 hectares of green area created with 7.5 million 400 million plants.
The rest of the vegetation in the green areas where 2.3 thousand trees will be planted, providing 260 trees per person, will mostly consist of shrubs, green roofs and vertical gardens. The city, where the balance between the amount of green areas and the building footprint, will absorb 116 thousand tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Its Energy Will Come From The Sun, Its Water From The Sea, Its Field Of Food
In the green city, which will be surrounded by a ring of solar panels capable of meeting all the electricity it needs, there will also be a belt of agricultural land that surrounds the urban area.
The fields will be irrigated with a water channel fed by an underwater sea pipe. The water collected in a large basin with a desalination tower will be distributed through the canal system in all settlements up to the agricultural areas surrounding the city. Water gardens are designed to fight floods as a model for durable landscaping.
Parking spaces for traditional vehicles will be located around the city; urban transportation will be provided by electric and semi-autonomous vehicles.
Smart Forest City, which is a test center for sustainable urbanism, includes a comprehensive research center to host international organizations, university departments and companies.
It is thought that the green city, surrounded by agricultural areas irrigated by solar panels and a water channel connected by underwater sea pipe, will be completely self-sufficient, producing cyclic economy and food and energy.
