Number of Tourists Decreased by 67,9 Percent in One Year
The number of tourists coming to Istanbul in March decreased by 588 thousand compared to the previous month and reached 374 thousand. Compared to March of the previous year, the number of tourists coming to Istanbul decreased by 67,9 percent. The number of tourists visiting Turkey was realized as compared to the previous month decreased by 1 thousand to 718 million, was 67,8 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
59,8% Decline in Hotel Occupancy Rates
In March 2020, the hotel occupancy rate in Istanbul decreased by 59,8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 29 percent. In February 2020, 65,1 percent occupancy was observed.
Decrease in Concierge Income, 65,5 percent
As a result of the exchange rate effect, the average daily room price decreased by 14,2 percent compared to March and was realized as 65,9 Euros. Meanwhile, revenue per room, calculated over the total room, decreased by 65,5 percent to 19,1 euros.
67,9% Decline in Air and Sea Voyage
In March, the number of passengers coming to Istanbul by air and sea decreased by 67,9 percent compared to the previous year. In March 2020, 372 thousand 710 tourists came to Istanbul by airline. The airport with the most tourists was Istanbul Airport with 261 thousand. While the total number of tourists coming to Istanbul by seaway is 391 thousand, the most frequent destination for tourists was recorded as Tuzla with 678 tourists.
312 Thousand Turkish Citizens Arrived Abroad
The Istanbul Statistical Office also worked on Turkish citizens living abroad. In March, 312 thousand Turkish citizens came from abroad. 312 thousand of them made arrival by airline and 2 thousand by seaway. 2 thousand Turkish citizens went abroad, 232 thousand of them by seaway.
Most Tourists Came From Germany
In March, 35 thousand tourists came from Germany; but there was a 59 percent decrease compared to last year. Russia was followed by Russia with 33 thousand, England with 16 thousand and France with 15 thousand respectively.
Arab Tourist Decreases by 71 Percent
In March, the number of visitors from Arab countries decreased by 188 thousand compared to the previous year. It was 71 thousand with a fall of 77 percent. The Arab country, with the highest number of tourists, was Algeria with 14 thousand. Algeria was followed by Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, respectively.
H53% Decrease in Number of Airline Passengers
The number of airline passengers in Istanbul decreased by 2020 percent compared to the same period of the previous year in the period of March 53 and reached 3 million 876 thousand. 1 million 794 thousand of these passengers were domestic and 2 million 81 thousand were international passengers.
