The Increase in the Number of Public Transport Users in Izmir Caused Anxiety

After the curfew imposed over the weekend due to the corona virus epidemic, the increase in the number of people using public transportation in Izmir on Monday (April 20th) raised concern. Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer once again called "Stay at home", especially since the student, free card holder and 60-year-old boarding passes are more than 50 thousand.

According to the data of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT General Directorate, 20 thousand 308 boarding was made to public transportation vehicles on Monday, April 646. This figure was 13 thousand 267 on the previous Monday (April 262), while it was 6 thousand 277 on the Monday (April 259) two weeks ago.

On Monday, April 20, the total number of boarding passes to all public transportation vehicles is 238 thousand 765, the number of boarding passes with student cards is 34 thousand 872, the free card ride is 13 thousand 120, the personnel card ride is 11 thousand 918, the 60 age card ride is 8 thousand 826, the teacher ride is 760, 3-5 card boarding was 230, child card boarding was 96 and headman card boarding was 59. Compared to the previous week, the rise in free card and 60-year-old boarding passes attracted attention. On Monday, April 20, the total number of boarding passes in these three groups was 56.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer once again called for “stay at home” after the painting where the headman and child card boardings are also seen. Emphasizing that those who do not have to go to work should not go out and use public transportation unless they have to, Soyer said:

“The figures show that thousands of people threw themselves into the streets after the weekend of curfew. If we can minimize the spread of this disease, our circulation and our interaction with each other, we will be able to prevent it. I do not do this; science says. I request once more and more of my fellow countrymen. We have a four-day curfew ahead of us. Please, let's not face the same picture next Monday. Let's not risk the health and life of each other, our loved ones. We all get bored because of this limitation, but please be patient. Let us be patient so that we can reach the beautiful days we miss much more quickly. ”
