Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Statistics Office published the April 2020 Istanbul Environment Bulletin. The bulletin included statistics on Istanbul's air quality, water, environmental management, cleanliness, electricity generation from landfill gas and natural gas statistics.
An improvement of 28,6 percent in air quality was seen in Istanbul in April. While the dirtiest air was recorded in 2017 in the last five years, the cleanest places were Kandilli, Büyükada and Sarıyer. The occupancy rate in Istanbul dams reached 70 percent. While there was a decrease in the amount of domestic waste collected in one year, the most excavation occurred in 10 in the last 2017 years. An area of 7,5 million square meters is swept every day in Istanbul. There was a 2019 percent increase in electricity production from landfill gas in 26,8. While natural gas consumption increased by 35 percent in January, the most natural gas subscribers are in Esenyurt.
AIR QUALITY STATISTICS
28,6 percent improvement in air quality
The air quality index improved by 28,6 percent in Istanbul in April. The highest air pollution in Kartal, Ümraniye and Kadıköy measured at stations. While the average Air Quality Index (HKI) was 1 in Istanbul between 31-2020 March 55, it decreased to 1, with a 12 percent improvement between 2020-28,6 April 39.

Therefore, air quality improved by 28 percent compared to the same period last year. The greatest improvements were made in Traffic and City-Background (38 percent) and Urban-Traffic (37 percent).
Air pollution decreased after the ban

Occupancy rate of dams is 70 percent
The average occupancy rates of 10 dams that gave water to Istanbul were 19 percent as of April 2020, 70. The highest occupancy rates are Darlık with 100 percent and Ömerli Dam with 97 percent; the lowest occupancy was Pabuçdere with 23 percent and Alibey Dam with 36 percent. Ömerli Dam constituted 97 percent of the water in the dams of Istanbul with a 37 percent occupancy rate.
Water consumption per capita increased to 68,4 cubic meters

Domestic waste decreased in one year
While domestic wastes occurring in Istanbul every day were 2018 tons in 18, they decreased in 844 to 2019 tons. In the first quarter of 16, most domestic waste was collected from Küçükçekmece district. Küçükçekmece was followed by the districts of Bağcılar, Pendik and Ümraniye.

According to data for the last nine years, the most litter was collected from the sea surface in 2014. In 2019, the amount of garbage collected was 2018 kg, down 29 percent compared to 387.
In 2019, 5 thousand cubic meters of waste was collected from 929 ships. 187 was the year in which the most ship waste was collected in the last 10 years.
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION FROM GARBAGE GAS
Land production from landfill gas increased by 2019 percent in 26,8
In 2019, 477 thousand 593 megawatts of electricity was produced from landfill gas in Istanbul, and the electricity needs of 1 million 200 thousand people of Istanbul were met. Total hourly electricity capacity that can be produced from landfill gas in landfill is 68 megawatt hours. The amount of energy produced from landfill gas increased by 2019 percent in 2018 compared to 26,8, reaching 477 thousand 593 megawatt hours. 69% of the amount of energy produced took place in Odayeri facilities. The highest energy production was achieved in March with 42 thousand 211 megawatt hours.
NATURAL GAS STATISTICS
Most natural gas subscribers in Esenyurt
The total number of natural gas subscribers in Istanbul was 6 million 649 thousand 518, and the number of users was 6 million 359 thousand 342. In January 2020, the number of subscribers increased 35 thousand 530 and the number of users increased 47 thousand 580. The districts with the highest increase were recorded as Esenyurt, Pendik and Ümraniye. As of January 2020, 95,6 percent of the natural gas meters in Istanbul were in residences and 4,1 percent in businesses. Districts with the highest number of counters are Esenyurt, Küçükçekmece and Ümraniye.
Natural gas consumption increased 35 percent in January
While the total natural gas consumption in 2019 was 6 billion 296 million 350 thousand 889 cubic meters, the consumption amount in January 2020 was 1 billion 202 million 940 thousand 877 cubic meters. January 2020 consumption increased 35 percent compared to the previous month. Compared to January 2019, there was a 1 percent decrease in consumption. Compared to the previous year, natural gas prices increased by 32 percent for non-eligible consumers and 14 percent for eligible consumers.
