Our 35 ambulances, which are extremely safe, will be at the service of our people in the transportation of suspects or patients.”

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlustarted his daily work in the central building in Saraçhane. İmamoğlu held his routine meeting with his staff by teleconference method in order to prevent the coronavirus epidemic that affected the world. After the virtual meeting he held with IMM Secretary General Yavuz Erkut, IMM President Advisor Murat Ongun and IETT General Manager Alper Kolukısa, İmamoğlu addressed his fellow citizens of Istanbul on a live broadcast. Imamoglu, in his speech broadcast live on his social media accounts and IBB TV's website, said:

“WE ARE IN WAR WITH AN INVISIBLE ENEMY”

“Unfortunately, the global epidemic is growing every passing day. Unfortunately, both death and number of cases increase in our country. I wish my condolences to our citizens who lost their lives and to their relatives. I pray for our patients who are still on treatment to regain their health as soon as possible. We are fighting together. My dear friends, we are at war with an enemy that does not appear as both a world and a country. I have already mentioned that we need to take radical measures against this radical enemy. In accordance with our state, we, as IMM, continue our way by taking very strict protective and preventive measures. Solidarity is very important. Every day, we make meetings with our colleagues through teleconference and evaluate what other steps we can take. Today, we had another meeting and made some decisions. Now I want to share these decisions with you:

100 DISINFECT STATION WILL BE ESTABLISHED

As the IMM, we will not leave a single uninfected public transport in the city. To disinfect more than 25 thousand vehicles, including taxis, taxis and minibuses, we are installing 100 disinfection stations in various points of Istanbul starting today. As you know, we are disinfecting our vehicles every day from the subway to the bus and the ferry. Now, other vehicles will also be cleaned. We invite all our chauffeur friends to our stations. Place announcements will be made to you.

PROVISIONAL INTERMEDIATE TO 7/24 TRANSPORT SERVICE

The biggest struggle with the epidemic is undoubtedly reducing contact. Unfortunately, we have to slow down life a bit and increase individual isolation. On this occasion, as soon as we take office, we temporarily stop the 24 hour transportation service that we started. We brought this service to facilitate the lives of working people in the night sector and to contribute to the social life of Istanbul. Now we need to be protected. Starting from the cessation of the service sector, we will pause the 7/24 transportation service we provide on Friday and Saturday evenings.

BUS SERVICES WILL BE REDUCED OUT OF THE ROOMS TO THE WORK AND RETURN

We will also make some changes in our transportation strategy. We will go to a reduction that does not affect human health in all public transportation services except for the departure and return hours, ie peak hours. As you know, we have not made any trip reductions so far. Travel rate decreased by over 60 percent. There will be some restrictions on our flights both in parallel and in the mobile in the city in order to reduce as much as possible. New tariffs will be announced to our citizens through our stations and social media. Please follow these announcements.

“IF OUR OLD CITIZENS ARE NECESSARY, STAY AWAY FROM THE MASS TRANSPORT VEHICLES”

Here, I would like to address especially to our citizens aged 60 and over under the risk group. Although there is a 70 percent reduction in your use of transportation, we need to reset it as much as possible. My request is that, unless it is essential, please stay away from public areas, especially public transport. Be isolated in your home. If you have a need regarding our municipality, please call our call center. We are with you for solidarity. It is very important that the disease is not transmitted in this process. I made this call to my parents first.

35 AMBULANCE SPECIAL TO CORONAVIRUS IS EQUIPPED

In this process, we will continue to protect and prioritize our healthcare professionals. I extend my gratitude to our doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals working for our health at the expense of their lives. We will take new steps in coordination with our health department to make their life easier. We made transportation free. In this context, I would like to announce to our people that; 35 ambulances of IMM were specially equipped against the coronavirus during this period. 35 highly ambulances will be at the service of our people during the transportation of suspects or patients. In this sense, I hope we will be gifting a complete process together to Istanbul.

“THIS IS THE PROCESS OF A COMPLETE AND MOVEMENT TOGETHER”

I reiterate our recommendation on street markets. Street markets for food only will be established. We held our meetings with district mayors about hygiene. Those fields will be made clean. Markets will be established in the form of spaced boards. Our district municipalities and other authorized institutions will follow the process throughout the day with their police. This is a process of total compromise and action.

“DO NOT LOSE YOUR HOPE”

Dear Istanbulites, these hard days will surely pass. Everything will be good, believe it. Do not lose hope. Keep your morale high. Make the most of this process you have to spend time at home. Read lots of books. Let families play both fun and educational games with their children. They are already doing their lessons. We thank the interest of our teachers. We will start publishing some of İBB's published, cultural and artistic events on social media for you. Please follow these. Don't bother. Protect your health first. Keep an eye on each other. Protect and warn each other. Arm, arm, shoulder to shoulder, we will survive these hard days in solidarity. Let's give an exemplary struggle to the world. After that, let's live an exemplary process for the world to solve many problems, as a whole, by taking a lesson. I wish you all a healthy day. God bless you all. ”
