It will end with the railway station to be built in Bartın by railway.

What happened year after year in the project?

2010: TENDER MADE

The construction of Karasu-Akçakoca-Ereğli Port-Çaycuma-Bartın Port Railway, which will start from Arifiye station and continue to Karasu Port and from there to Bartın, was put out to tender in 2010 by the Ministry of Transport as one of the largest and comprehensive projects of recent years.

2011: CONSTRUCTION STARTED

Winning the tender, the company started the construction works between Arifiye and Karasu, the first phase of the giant project, in 2011.

2012: PROJECT MUDGUARD EMBEDDED

Just a year after the construction started, the work stopped suddenly around Söğütlü. The giant project, which will cost only 1 million TL for the first stage between Arifiye and Karasu, was buried in the mud and called shelves in 320. The reason for the project to be put on the shelf was some unforeseen problems during the tender. The most important of these disruptions was the problem of ground liquefaction in some parts of the railway line.

Because, after a certain part of the project, it was determined that the rails built due to changing land conditions will collapse due to the softness of the soil. Hasan Ali Çelik, AK Party Deputy of the period regarding construction, which stopped in 2013, said, “The company that took the project encountered unforeseen problems on the ground. In some areas, loam floors were encountered. Their work got very difficult. Other methods had to be used for the places to be made with stone filling. He said, “The costs have increased considerably.”

2013: THE PROJECT IS REMOVED

Due to this critical mistake, the appropriation determined at first was completed in a short time and the project was put on the shelf before it could be completed. The part of the project starting from Karasu to Söğütlü and buried in the mud corresponded to only 35 percent of the Karasu Railway project.

2016: NEW HOPE WAS BORN IN THE PROJECT

The General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments restarted the construction of the project, which was interrupted in 2012 and expressed on the shelf in 2013. The General Directorate realized the targeted works in the project with a 7-hour working day. The contractor firm, Seza İnşaat, carried out the work to strengthen the ground by placing concrete on the ground with 24 workers. In the meantime, certain areas of the ground were strengthened.

2017: THE PROJECT HAS BEEN REMOVED

The project, which was restarted in 2016, was again stopped on 31 March 2017 with the decision of the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments.

2018: AND THE PROJECT'S RENOVATION HAS BEEN DECIDED

The first attempt took place in 2018, after the project was shelved for a long time. In 2018, the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments went out for the revision tender for the project. The name of the tender was: Karasu-Akçakoca-Ereğli Port-Çaycuma-Bartın Port Railway Connection Revision Survey Project and Engineering Services Work ”. 2018 companies participated in the tender held in 8, and the proposals of 7 of them were accepted, and a review period began for approximately 1 year. During this 1-year review period, the Directorate General made an investigation about who will award the ETUT tender by putting all the details of the project on the table, as if learning lessons from past mistakes.

2019: REVISE TENDER GIVEN TO ITALIANS

The General Directorate evaluated the offers from 7 companies for a long time after the tender and announced that the preparation of the revision project was given to the world-famous Italian company RPA SRL. RPA SRL, which has undertaken many major projects such as Karasu Railway worldwide, has started to work by receiving the tender of the giant project containing the survey, revision and expropriation plans, with a cost of 8 million 366 thousand TL. Within the scope of the tender, the Italian company was also required to deliver the project within 1 year.

2020: CONSTRUCTION IN THE PROJECT WILL START AGAIN

The 1-year period given to the Italian company expired last week (March 2020). It was learned that the company will be delivered the project to the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments in a short time. After the survey project is delivered, the construction will start again. The new version of the project will cost 469 million 569 thousand TL. Within the scope of the project, a 55-kilometer railway line will be built and 1 500-meter viaduct and 190 bridges and passages will be built along the route.

After the first phase of the project, between Karasu and Arifiye, the Bartın connection of the railway will begin. The trains that will operate on the railway line, where freight and passenger trains will operate, will speed up to 120 kilometers. There will be 8 stations on the route and 5 of them will be located in Sakarya. (I candidates)
