İzmir Metropolitan Municipality completed the Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan. 58 kilometers long new road will be built in the first place.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality completed the Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan. The emergency action plan prepared within the scope of 2030 Izmir Main Transportation Plan (UPI 2030) aims to increase the rate of bicycle use in transportation.

There is a 63-kilometer long urban bicycle path in İzmir. The emergency action plan foresees to finish the 103-kilometer bike path quickly. In the first stage, a preliminary project of 58 kilometers of bicycle roads was made. In the next step, a tender for the implementation project of this section will be made. With the completion of the 58-kilometer road, the bicycle road in İzmir will reach 121 kilometers. In the second stage, work will start for the remaining 45 kilometers of roads.

Going anywhere by bike

First of all, to provide bicycles to everywhere in the city Karşıyaka, BayraklıThe inner parts of Bornova and Konak districts will be connected to the existing bicycle paths on the beach. Bayraklıin Ankara, Manas Boulevard, Sakarya Street; Karşıyakain Girne Boulevard, Atatürk Boulevard; The main arteries such as Fevzipaşa Boulevard, Gazi Boulevard and Şair Eşref Boulevard will be accessed by bicycle in Konak.

Will be introduced on April 7

The Izmir Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan, the preparations of which have been completed, will be introduced to Izmir residents on April 7, 2020. In 2030, the length of the cycle paths in İzmir is expected to reach 411 kilometers.

Izmir is also a member of EuroVelo

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality was included in the European Bicycle Route Network (EuroVelo) in November 2019. Thus, Izmir, attended by about 7 billion euros per year with economic size EuroVelo from Turkey became the first city. It is envisaged that the 500 km long bicycle route that connects the ancient cities of Bergama and Ephesus will contribute to urban tourism and transportation.
