Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality continues its works for the protection of Izmit Bay. In this context, during the routine inspections of the environmental inspection teams, it was found that the Panama flag ship poured dirty ballast into the sea. Metropolitan teams immediately intervened in the ship polluting the Izmit Bay.

The inspection teams affiliated to the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Department of Environmental Protection and Control do not interfere with pollution in the Izmit Bay. The teams working without saying 7 days 24 hours day and night continue their routine inspections while evaluating every notification.
DIRTY BALLAST DUST TO THE SEA
Metropolitan Municipality Department of Environmental Protection and Control Department approached the ship in a port in Körfez district during the inspection. The teams found that the ship attached to the port poured dirty ballast into the Gulf of Izmit. Necessary samples were taken by the teams and fined 635 thousand 614 TL on the ship named Panama BISKRA.
CONTROL BY AIR BY SEA
In order to keep Izmit Bay clean, the Metropolitan Municipality conducts sea pollution inspections arising from ships and vessels by sea control aircraft. Within the scope of the works since 2007, the sea control aircraft became the nightmare of the ships polluting the Gulf of Izmit. Sea Plane, which serves all Marmara Region provinces as per the protocol signed with the Union of Marmara Municipalities, is also able to land and take off from Cengiz Topel Airport.
